Default C6 tranny problem

Living in Wisconsin, my Vettes have spent their winters covered and stored. However, I take my past and current Vette, a 2009 LS3 coupe 6 spd manual, out once a month in my backyard and run for half an hour, running a/c for about one-third of that time. I vary rpm's from 2000-2500 and then garage, shut down and cover again. Yesterday I was doing this with my 2009 (900 mile) C6 LS3, biding my time. After about 10 minutes, the engine suddenly slowed down and there was a horrifyingly loud crunch from the rear end and the engine died. I restarted the engine and could not find any gear where it should have been and could not find neutral or reverse anywhere. Made it real fun to get on the flatbed. Dealer today stated that he had the car out and had no problems with neutral or reverse (????), but that the clutch felt strange. I reminded him that the loud noise came from the rear end, not from the clutch. He'll be taking a close look at it in two days but I'd like to know if any of you folks have heard of a similar problem. The dealer had not.

Im with you, 2010 here I got in Nov and have 3K on it but will slow down a good bit now that Ive had alot of fun in it but it is my DD.

What Im wondering is, if not driving the car often causes more problems or not?

Difference is you can drive yours all year round, i put that milage on in less then a month. Car has been in storage since November 15th!

I cant see letting it sig cause any "real" issues.... I used to put them up on jackstands and go "drive" them twice a month during the winter but I think its pointless really.

Just a few questions to try and narrow the problem down...
-Were you driving the car when this noise occured?
-When the engine stalled, did you hear it struggling to stay on or did it just die from one second to the next?
-When you say you couldn't find reverse or any gears, do you mean the shifter was frozen solid or did it move freely in there as if there was no linkage?
-Did you get any codes or msgs on the "Msg Center"?
-When all this happened, how did the clutch pedal feel?
-When you restarted the engine, did you hear any unusual noises or vibrations?
-When this happened, what gear were you in (if you were in a gear) and what were you doing (pressing the clutch, reving the engine, etc)?

Having lived in wi most of my life, I too have stored cars and bikes every winter. I have always been unwilling to torture starters, bearings, and in general any moving parts once they have been frozen through and through. I would imagine you've experinced turning over your winter vehicles occasionally after they have been sitting for days in the cold. I just can't do that to something I consider to be kind of exotic. I just take some nice pictures, park it, disconnect or remove the battery, cover it, and wait for warmer weather. If you start them to keep them oiled I think you just repeat the damage cycle every month. JMO
I think maybe, you could have had linkage problems, or slider gear, shifter fork problems. Hopefully your dealer doesn't just blow you off. I think c6 clutches are wierd anyway.

Nope, car was in neutral, idling
Idling one second, dead the next
I could move the shifter, but it only went into third gear. Others just were not "there"
No codes, no messages
Clutch pedal felt normal
I could not restart. Tranny was in third gear and could not find a neutral

Your original post was a year and a half ago, and no updates? What was the problem? It should be fixed by now, right?
