Default Ls2 auto w/ls7 cam

Has anyone used a ls7 cam in a stock c5 ls2 w/ stock converter?
I have cam & springs & I'm wanting to install it but afraid it will kill the low end torque. Don't want to change converter. Someone please help me decide.

It all depends on what cam your trying to put in. I put in a big cam and on a dyno sheet it showed a slight decrease in power down low, but in the seat of the pants feel it is not noticable. You do however notice the huge gains in the upper rpms.

The results I've seen posted from LS7 cams being used in smaller cube motors were not great. I'd get a cam that is more closely spec'ed to your needs. Do you have headers?

The ls7 cam is designed for emissions, 427 cubes, and completely different heads than your car has. The ls7 heads have completely different flow rates than your 243 heads.

I'd choose another cam that was designed for your needs. Top tuners on this board have many different designs based on what you want to do with your car.

I wouldn't use the ls7 cam in my ls2 even if it was free.

The Z06 manifolds flow pretty well. you don't need such a big split. A mild cam such as 218/230 115 +2 using XFI lobes would have a very crisp bottom end for a stock converter car and pull cleanly up top. EPS makes a nice 222 lobe you could go a little more top end with a 222/230 116 +2.

You may need better springs, I don't have any experience with the LS7 springs.

The LS7 cam is very little different than the LS9 cam. Don't remember exactly, but I think the LSA is a degree or two different. Same lobes. To me, it wouldn't be worth the time and effort it takes to swap a cam. An improvement over the LS2 cam, absolutely. Enough to make the swap worth while? Hmmmm.....me thinks not.

If you do use the LS7 cam, no need to swap springs. Your yellow ones will do fine. That may be the only reason to consider that cam. You can use your stock springs.

We did this on the wife's 07' LS2 A6. Also Lt's, Corsa Sports, and a Vararam CAI. 400/359 rw. Did this on the recommendation of a local shop right after we bought it. It works for her. There are definitely other cams out there. It idles well and drives well. There's no loose of low end tq. It increased across the rpm's. If we were to do it again we would probably go with something like spin's cam. This is a DD and like many have said it depends on what you're after. There is definitely no shortage of opinions on here.
