Default LS3 Stroker engine build

We're building an LS3 Stroker from scratch. It will be a FI setup w/ a Procharger/Aeromotive fuel system. I decided to build this as a new motor setup and l'll be setting aside my current LS2 H/C/I motor..maybe sell it down the road.

So this engine will be a 9.5:1 compression, LS3 based 418ci w/ Callies Compstar crank/rods, Diamond Pistons. I decided on using the Procharger F1 which should produce around 12-15psi. I'm undecided on whether to run a nice CNC ported LS2 or LS3 head. If I went with the LS2 style I could reuse my Venence ported FAST 92 intake (which has also been sanded and paint black to look more stock & had the "vette" clearance mod done). If the LS3 head will yield 25+ more hp I'd strongly consider going that route and having the option to go to a FAST 102 intake as well. Camshaft decisions will come after I figure the head thing out, but this will be a hydraulic setup probably not too much more than .600" lift, .240 @ .050". I'm nervous about reliability valve train from either valve float or too much spring needed to control valve float and collapsing lifters.

So as I do my research, I'm curious to call on some of your experiences and research.
  • Where's a good place to purchase a new LS3 block? I've seen them from $1400 to $1600 out there. Is that just the going rate or is there a high volume dealer out the with smoking rates.
  • What are your thoughts on the LS2 vs LS3 head setup? Think this setup would benefit from the LS3 & 102mm FAST intake or the LS2 head/92mm FAST setup?

I think it is conservative to expect 700 - 800 rwhp out of this setup. I'd love to hear your thoughts, opinions, suggestions. Oh, and I need to have this motor built and back in the cradle and the chassis back up in the body within 2 months. Thats when the salts off the roads and tracks start to open back up.

Thanks all!
