Hi guys new to the C-6 section; I picked up a nice low mile C-6 today Z51 6 speed car and I love it. Sold my C5 ZO6 a month ago and I have been miserable. I have a simple question for you veterans here in the C-6 section. In the C-5 you are able to read and clear codes on DIC control panel, does the C-6 have the feature? I stopped and filled up with gas today and the check engine light came on afterwards. If so what proceedure do you use on the DIC to get into the read codes modes. Thanks for the help I read several posts here about the gas cap causing the CEL to come on.
No, they didn't continue that feature into the C6's. You have to buy or borrow a code reader. Basic ones are only $30 or so and go up in price with features. Actron is probably the most popular and easily available brand.
As for your issue, it certainly could be the gas cap. Just for reference, DON'T try to screw it on/down tight. Just put it on and turn it the requisite number of times to get 3 clicks. If your CEL is a spurious problem it could clear itself after about 10 ignition cycles. You may need a new gas cap but don't run out and get one right away. Also, you should get a message on the DIC to check gas cap.
Another possibility, though much less likely, is bad gas. These C6's are sensitive to gas quality. Good luck and congratulations on the C6.

Thank you sir I suspected that the General may have deleted that feature. I will pick up a CAN complient reader at Advance tomorrow to have on hand in the future. Thanks for your wisdom I am sure I will learn much about these cars in the next few months.
