Default what shocks for drag racing?

hey guys, im trying to find out what would be a good setup for street/strip drag racing. i have a h/c/i/e c6 z51 6sp manual. its making 500rwhp now and ill be adding a 150rwhp dry nitrous shot to it in the next few weeks. im getting alot of wheel hop with the nitto drag radials along with alot of tire spin... what is a good setup that will cure this that costs 1k or less... thanks in advance for all help..

if your serious get the PFADT drag pack, then get the rear corner balanced.

have someone video tape your launch,, usually it is just one wheel that is spinning, increase the shock firmness to that tire, if that doesnt work, add more weight by increasing the height on that wheel.

you could also get away with just jacking up the corner weight screws on the stock springs.

also, ditch the nitto's and get a dedicated drag tire setup if your serious about going fast on the track.

Here is a thread that lists the parts that have helped us achieve the fastest 60'ing IRS Corvette out there at 1.20. Some of these items are out of your 1k budget. However, if you were willing to step up a few hundred dollars, I am replacing my Pfadt drag coil overs this season with a new design we are working on and would be willing to let them go for $1,300. They are practically new.

I'm getting a set of pfadt motor mounts this week from a member on here. next i plan on getting the pfadt trans mounts, ecs trans brace and shocks. then i guess go from there. i would like to get coil overs but i just can't right now.

Not coil overs. Double adjustable shocks in the front and single adjustable shocks in the rear.

Tires and tire pressures are probably the very first areas I would address.

I have M/T drag radials at 17 psi with stock suspension, no wheel hop. Try getting some M/T's in 17" so you have some sidewall.

And with the weak 05...any wheelhop could be deadly. I never wheel hop on drag radials with 17 lbs in them. I've seen many 05 rears broken, usually on street tires after wheel hopping.

If you get any wheel hop...let out of it.

I broke mine on my 301st 5000 rpm launch...I think that might be a record.

OP I'd suggest you read and study this website for some great tips on launching the manual Vette.

In particular read about proper clutch care or you will have a bad day with a clutch pedal stuck down.

www.rangeracceleration.com

I always advise anyone with a manual 05 if they get serious about modding and racing, they would be well off to sell their 3:42 rear to an automatic guy before it breaks and install the much cheaper C5 rear.

the funny thing is mine only wheel hops with drag radials.. at any pressure. mine is a 05 with 40k miles. it runs smooth with street tires even on a 125 shot. i can't spray on the dr's because they wheel hop on motor. I'm getting motor mounts and stuff as we speak. I'm really starting to wonder if there is a broken motor mount and with the dr's grabbing its making the drive train shake and i think its wheel hop?

Pfadt adjustable shocks front and rear. 10 clicks up front. 4 clicks in the rear for a starting point. This will keep the front elevated, therefore more weight to the rear, all the way into the traps. Also drag radials that are not properly inflated and burn out prepared may cause hop. Slicks or M T ET Streets bias really helps as the side wall flexes more and absorbs more of the force on the tire. Remember bias in the rear, bias up front. I had severe hop at times before the Pfadts and MT ET streets. Now None!!

Silly question. I think I have it figured out from trial an error but...When you adjust the pfadt shock settings are you turning clockwise from looking at the top of the shock or from looking at the bottom?
