Long tube headers and a Vararam or halltech(cold air intake) will complement and work hand in hand with a cam making power.

For the cam itself you will need

-Cam
- Valve spring kit... springs, keepers, retainers, seats and 16 valve stem seals
-hardend pushrods
- gaskets and crank bolt
-fluids...coolent, oil ..etc

And you will need a tune for your new setup

I use a vendor on here www.texas-speed.com for most of my stuff.
Their cam kits are around 760ish shipped with everything you will need for a cam install

here is a approx breakdown off the top of my head.

Cam kit $ 760
Long tubes $800-1600
Cold air kit $200-550
Tune $ 350-550
Fluids&ac recharge $110 for the good stuff
Labor ??? Call a well known shop in your area that is recommended.

You motor comes factory complete with a cam and all the supporting hardware. No additional cam is necessary for proper functioning of the motor.

Edit:
Oh my bad I see you own a C5 but posted in the C6 section. Your C5 may or may not have a cam depending on what color coolant was designated for your submodel, you'll have to check your VIN to determine.

Are headers a must with a cam or can you just do a cam/intake combo and see some power gains?

Headers, CAI intake, etc.. are not required for a cam swap but it's highly recommended to allow the cam to make the power its advertised at.

An engine is an air-pump so anything you do to support the movement of air in and out of the engine will help it to make more power.
A cam will change the timing events and allow for more power to be made as well as position the power and characteristics where/how you want it/them. The stock manifolds will support a certain amount of Hp but I do not know what that is to be honest. Most first mods a person will do are the CAI and headers. You can do some searching though and maybe find some cam only no header combo's and see what they got for results. Cali cars can't legally run LT's and with the new 2010 Camaro there seems to be a resurgence of shorty's so there is some data to be looking for/at.

I had some questions when I was purchasing my cam as well. Called Jon at TSP and he took time out of his day to answer all my dumb questions.

BTW- I had already purchased 1 7/8 LT's and a Vararam to compliment the cam.

Thanks for the replies and I hope the OP doesn't feel like his thread is being hi-jacked but i figured if its all about cams it can't hurt.

My hesitation about headers is the additional noise they seem to produce. I love the lope of a nice cam ( i will be leaning towards a mild streetable cam for myself). Even posts that say "cam only" seem to have headers involved. I've had a few cars with mods but this would be my first real venture into the engine itself so I'm kind of a newb. I keep reading different posts to get a feel for things though.

I purchased my cam set-up from EnglandGreen

You can talk with Stephen. Stephen answered all my questions and then some. Highly recommend them.

They have a variety of cams to select from.

See the link above.

What ever cam you select you will enjoy the new added power

Just get cats and a quiet catback...shouldn't be to loud if you look for the right system.

I already have the BB bullets with the PRT so I really don't want to switch to another system ( I really like it).
