At one particular customers site I have to do a u-turn to get out of the parking lot as soon as I start moving. 4 times now out of about 11 or 12 I got the following messages "Active Handling Calibrating" then Active Handling ready". (15MPH tops) I know I need to change my diff fluid, I can start to hear it now on tight turns and this is one of those turns. Anyone else have this occur to them.
No other time does my Active handling or Traction control give me any grief.
08' about 10K on the clock. 1LT, so no telescopic steering column.
It's normal when you turn a lot at slow speeds right after starting the car...once you get up to say 20 mph you never get the message, and if you start up and drive basically straight, it never says it. Happens in parking garages all the time. I think it's even mentioned in the owners manual.
Sounds like a chatter? There is a TSB for it...covered under warranty...not sure after 3 years....basically change diff fluid with

I don't mind changing it myself, the dealer didn't have any last week so I will just try again tomorrow. My 08" doesn't fall under that due to the manufacturing date. August 08' was suppose to have that already, or at least that's what the dealer told me.
Active Handling has to determine where straight ahead is located when you are driving the car. It does that by using the wheel speed and steering sensors. When the front wheels are rotating at the same speed, the rear wheels are rotating at the same speed, the steering wheel isn't moving, both steering sensor output signals are minimized and the car has driven a specifed distance above 6 mph or so the system calibrates itself by memorizing the steering sensor signals for that ignition cycle. This compensates for wear that slowly occurs in the steering system. On the C5 the system used to give an Active Handling Warming Up message and that got people all confused so they went to the calibration message which is a more accurate description of what is going on. This happens every time you do an engine start.
If you are somewhere where you are turning the wheel like in a parking garage or a parking lot then the calibration is delayed and you get the message. When you see that message it means you do not have any Active Handling until the system finishes calibrating. Normal operation.
