Hey everyone, I have a 2005 corvette 6 spd. I have just started on doing a few small mods, I have the Vararam unit, and I just installed the borla stingers. I am looking in getting the OBX long tube headers with the high flow cats and x pipe, but i was told if I install headers, it's going to make the car too loud, and that its going to sound like a race car. Now I like my stingers, but i dont want to hear a lot of noise up front though. Will the headers make the car loud in the front or will there be no increase of sound? Thanks

Headers will make it loud. That should be obvious.
I use the Z06 mufflers with a butterfly valve controller so I can go from quiet to loud and back at will.

Stingers+headers=hearing loss.........
PS: Im not coming back to this thread since you mentioned OBX headers (I was thinking about going Chinese too but I read way to much crap about them, Look around you can find a good deal on name brand headers. Im getting LG's for around $1500 with cats). Now I'm going to

I only have increased volume at acceleration (much louder!) with my headers...if that helps you at all. Cruising volume hasn't changed unless I get stuck at one of those odd rpms; ~62mph I want to say. I'm typically going 45mph or 75mph to and from work.

Reason: emphasis on acceleration

I lied.... I came back. Insulation mats? Get a NPP exhaust? It might not be too bad around town but the drone on longer rides would be aweful. As for more power there are more expensive options like a cam, SC, ported intake and TB. Only problem is headers are usually the first mod. It sounds like you don't want a ton more HP so I'm not sure what your best options are.

at Wot they are alot louder, but with some shifting and some restraint...they can be controlable
Have heard stingers with a catted x and it isn't to bad....Deep, smooth and very little rasp. I can't wait to get mine.
OP scratch the OBx...Texas Speed is going to come out with their SS version of headers in the coming weeks...They are good and affordable....I may look at them myself.
My setup is 1 7/8 ss ceramic coated headers and the Corsa Sport. At part throttle and cruise, the sound is fairly quiet and zero drone, but, at wot, it barks.
I've got Corsa Sports and Kooks coated headers with cats. Car is very mild sound at idle and cruise. Sounds like a beast at WOT. It's much quieter than my C5 which had LG Street headers and GHL Magnum exhaust.
Buy some used Corsa Sports, sell the Stingers, buy the headers.
Only do this if you want your car to sound terrible Corsa has a very weak/high pitched tone compared to borla and I think you'd be greatly dissapointed switching to them if you like the current tone of your car.
Stingers and longtubes is the way to go and it's LOUD. That's what I have on my car and I love it. There IS lots of drone at 70mph in 6th gear, so put it in 5th at that point and you'll be fine. 80mph in 6th there is little to no drone. As long as you drive above or below the 1500-1700 rpm range you'll be good to go.
Also, OBX are fine and I know several people who run them (in various models of cars). Don't let a few bad apples on the internet deter you. People who aren't satisfied are always the loudest online...as are those who feel the need to crusade against headers that perform for 50% of the cost.
