Default help with picking brakes

I have an 07 C6 coupe with big brake package listed as sub heading under the magnetic ride control option. The Rotors are cross drilled. I am looking for new pads and not sure what size to get. When shopping I find standard c6 size and Z51. I assume what i need is the same as Z51 but wanted to make sure.

Also I would like some opinions on the best pads to get. Also the current rear rotors have some cosmetic issues with rust and considering replacing them as well. Looking for something that is powder coated etc to avoid the same issue in future.

Thanks for any help

Will

Yes, your '07 F55 came with the Z51 brakes.

Need more info on what you use, or plan to use, the car for. Just street driving? Some Auto-x? Some track? What are you looking for from your brakes? Cleaner, less dust? Dust doesn't matter to you? Less noise? Better bite/performance? Give us some idea what you want to do then folks can give better advice on pads.

Your rotors are likely fine. They can be cleaned and zinc coated to eliminate rust....or just cleaned and painted.....or like you said you can replace them.

Your pads are the same size as all base C6s and C5s actually.

You do have larger rotors with the Z51 rotors (F55).

No track days or racing for me, just daily driving. I would like less dust and good performance. Not to concerned about noise unless its excessive

I thought about paining the rotors with caliper paint and may try that at first. However, there is some minor ridging in the rotors so they will need to be replaced at some point. (haven't had luck in past getting them turned)

You should take a look at this pad I offer 7% forum discount and you can place the order directly through me at 216-780-8825.

Front $144 Rear $124. Our pads are some of the best on the market hands down you can search us on the forum and you will see why.

The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser, and has won multiple SCCA Solo 2 and Prosolo National Championships. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. Bobcat 1521™ compound has also been found to extend the life of your rotors 2-3 times. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

Gene Culley, GM Parts House had AC delco ceramics for $122.00 for front AND rear! I have a 2007 Z51 m6 that's a daily driver with these pads, great for the street, little to no dust, and quiet!

These guys have some nice stuff. I use their rotors and like them a lot. They are very lite and last a long time. http://shop.performanceafx.com/C6-Z51-Corvette_c15.htm

I have an F-55 with the same brakes. I got the car GM certified with brand new Delco brake pads! It squealed like crazy.
I put Hawk ceramic pads on the front and voila! No more squeal! I am happy with them and they were not expensive. the rears squeal a bit in reverse, but I can live with that. Might change them over the summer, though!

Any idea how much lighter their Z51 rotors are compared to stock Z51 rotors?

I talked to AFX, which has a great customer service, and they said it is about 7.5 lbs per front rotor & about 6 lbs per rear rotor. You can also buy the rotors with out slots as well.
