Was thinking about changeing to a vararam for my Ls2. Right now I have the K+N intake West Coast Corvettes has them on sale for $389.00 anyone out there let me know if you have a vararam and what you think about me makeing the change and is it something that I will notice in performance and power? My car already has all the bolt ons including the fast 102 plus a recent dyno tune.
Do it. A true cold air intake is a good idea, especially in combination with all the other bolt ons you have. It's just one part of the air in/ air out process that makes these things work so well. The virtues of the vararam are well documented and worth the money in my opinion.
Don't get sucked in by the negative people, if you have common sense and want your car to have the best functioning CAI system on it just get it.
Give Byunspeed a call, they gave me the best deal on mine.
I have had mine now coming up on 2 years, first thing I bought for my car.
My tuner had negative things to say about them until he tuned my car and admitted it didn't have the turbulence people spoke of and it truly worked!
He couldn't believe how fast the iat's came down once the car started moving.
My negative opinion comes from watching guys w/ Vararam deal with the problems:
I wouldn't cut the shroud.
Don't like the concept of bottom feeders scooping up all that dirty air kicked up by the wheels at the street level.
I've seen them become loose over and over again.
I like the K&N air filter system I have installed and wouldn't trade it. I see no need to switch to a bottom feeder. My temps are low and I get plenty of cold air (see mods.)
For those of you who like your Vararam , great - I'm glad it works out for you. I'm just saying why *I* won't use it (in response to OP.)

I have a k&n right now and just bought the vararam to replace it. I'm not a huge fan of cai's that suck hot air from the engine bay.

From what I have heard you will get no gains from the Vararam over the K&N.

Well mine doesn't "suck hot air from the engine bay." And I never said the K&N was a CAI; it's not, it is a air filter system.
I also don't use that insulating hood liner or those plastic fuel rail cover that hold in heat as I bet a lot of bottom-feeding enthusiasts do.
My temps stay low - from 160° to about 200°. During the hotter day of summer, if I am stopped at a long traffic light I will sometimes see temps creep up to 220° but they will drop back down as soon as I get moving.
Sorry, there is no argument that will convince me to cut the shroud.

I will still never recommend one to anybody, because they are still pieces of crap. Turbulence wasn't a huge issue, but that's because Corvettes have the luxury of being able to run a relatively straight air bridge instead of having 90º turns. There are better options with more filter area and a cleaner appearance.
You have to cut the shroud to get cooler air. Calloway also requires cutting the shroud and I think we would all agree they know what they're doing. As for sucking crap and dirt off the road, that is BS. I would check my filter after months of driving thousands of miles and it was still fairly clean. You'll find that most Vararam bashers on here have never had one and most have never even seen one first hand. Just do your research prior to install and be careful not to cut the condenser. PM me if you decide to install yourself. The thing works. Period. Great customer service too.

Exactly.
Also, I'm not entirely certain that it's best to be taking advice about high performance parts from those that seem to be far more concerned with simply how a part 'looks' under the hood or that it might allow a minute amount more of dust onto one's power steering pump than how said parts might make the car run faster.
Scoring points at the local car show is important too I suppose.
