This weekend I lowered my C6 on stock bolts. I bottomed out the front and cut the bushing off the rear. Now it's making an annoying squeak at slow speeds over bumps. Is that normal? Is there anything I can do to fix that? And is it bad for the car to no longer have the bushing. There's still a little bit of rubber on the bolt but isnt it mostly metal on metal?
I had the same issue. I simply sprayed the rear sway bar clamps and the bushings I cut with a silicone based lubricant. Drove around the block and I've never heard a noise since. I'd try that before taking everything apart just to change bolts, especially if you already re-aligned.
I really appreciate the input. After work I sprayed some white lithium grease on it. Squeak is gone. Hope it stays that way. I may buy a set of those pads to keep around the house just in-case.
Hang on a second. I think everyone is missing the big picture. If you removed the rubber bushing from the rear bolt then you now have a steel bolt rubbing on the aluminum control arm. NOT a good situation. A little lube may stop the squeak but that steel bolt is still going to cut into the aluminum A-arm. Look into the lowering bolts from Hardbar. They use a delrin end which is self lubricating, will take forever to wear out if at all, and does not squeak.
