Default Odd discovery changing oil first time

So I have a 2005 c6 and put it on my lift for the first time to change the oil, I previously bought oil and filter before
Hand. When I went to put the filter on it would not fit, searched and the pf46 is the right one for my car so it seems, however te one I pulled off and the replacement I ended up getting because it fits is a pf48 (equivalent actually got the mobile 1 filter) so I looked a little and seen that this is a filter for 2007 and up LS2, LS3, and z06
Etc.... My question is. Has anyone else seen this? And what does that mean or anything, the car was bought used with 16000 mikes on it august of 2010. No modifications have been made that I am aware of or can see other then things I have done.

It is possible the car had an engine put in it at some point. Many of the replacement motors and/or oil pans use the newer PF48 filter. I've never seen a 2005 take a pf48 unless the oil pan or engine was changed at some point.

If you want to PM me the VIN to your car I will be happy to look in the system to see if a replacement was done under warranty at any point.

I agree with this or...

The previous owner changed out the threaded portion to the newer larger style so they could use a filter with the emergency bypass built in (PF48).

On a project LS2 where I had to swap pans, I found that it used the 48 style filter so I swapped it back to the 46 size threads from the original pan since I had so many PF46 filters already in stock.
