I've been driving stick for the last 35 years. On my 5th Mustang GT and soon will be trading for a used C6. This past Saturday I test drove a atomic orange 2005 coupe with only 7000 miles on the speedo. The clutch engaged pretty close to the top, making it tough to put down some hard acceleration. Hopefully this is not normal. The last GM car I owned with vette drivetrain was a 2004 GTO and the clutch was just as normal as my current mustang gt.
Is it possible that the previous owner could have killed it in 7000 miles ? It's a really nice car like new, but no warranty so I'm a bit leary.

Sounds odd...my clutch is about 1/2 way up I guess, and hasn't changed in 50,000 miles or 433 hard launches.
Did you check the clutch fluid? Perhaps it was low...but clutch wear shouldn't raise the engagement point in the Vette.
It's not like that fr!gg!n plastic sector like the Mustang...wish I had a nickel for each time I replaced mine!
The 05's have a weak rear. If you plan to drag race you might look elsewhere. My rear made it 301 passes but when it cracked like they do it took out the trans too which is common.
I don't have, and have never driven, a manual trans C6 but what you describe has been frequently talked about here over the years. My take on it is it's a pretty common phenomenon with the C6, the clutch engages high in the pedal travel. No one has ever mentioned that it compromised the effectiveness/holding power of the clutch. Just takes getting used to.
Just FYI, if you bought a C6 with that condition and it bothered you, one of our vendors, Tick Performance, developed an adjustable master cylinder that cures that. Here's a recent review if interested:
