I have a 2007 C6 with A6 and it is tuned and setup running Michelin PS2’s that have a 26.9 inch diameter ( 285/35ZR/19). I want to use Nitto 275/40ZR 18 inch 555R tires for use at weekend visits to local drag strip. The 18 inch Nitto tires have a 26.89 diameter.
I want to avoid having to go in and reset the computer for a different tires so I am interested in the 18 inch instead of going 17 inch. Given these diameters are almost the same will this work on the car without screwing up the shift points?
I have to use these tires to drive to the strip which is about 60 miles away so the choice is 555R.
Does anyone have any actual experience using these tires on a C6 with an A6?

That set up should be just fine at your level...there's a guy I race with named 'jpee' (he posts in this section from time to time as well) that has a 2005 A4 C6 LS2 with a Vararam, thermostat and tuning and he hooks well on 305-35-18 Nitto 555Rs.
Your shift points and even ABS/TC/AH should all be fine as well as long as long as you still have the stock TPMS (tire pressure sensors) in the new wheels.

That's a safe way to look at it but just for the record, plenty of us drive A LOT further than that on other supposedly 'less streetworthy' drag radials (M/T, Hoosier, BFG etc.) and it works out just fine. I've even seen some driving to/from the track on bias ply/DOT slicks and pulling it off without issue as well.
glad to hear that. i have considered the Nitto NT05R as an otion. my concern is that the NT05R may not meet my need for low speed coursing. our club gets involved in those events and i want to have rear tires to use for both type of uses instead of the PS2's. they are too expensive to wear out.
is anybody using NT05R tires for low speed events

"YES" I use 305/35x18" Nitto 555 .. I have a stock converter and my 60' are 1.860 - 1.900 I never have traction problems, or get ANY codes on my DIC...
In fact I do not have any air pressure sensors on the rear 18" wheels, and I drive app 100 miles to the track.. about 1/2 way there I'll get a DIC message telling me my Air Pressure Sensors are not working.. I just rest the DIC, and have no problems using the above set up...

I have no problem ...I've even hit rain and was OK but kept my speed to 45-50 mph... and change the tires when I hit the wear bars... or SOON after..

I have a set (285-40-18s) in the garage that I haven't mounted yet, they might even become my basic daily driver/cruising tires for the C6.
Coincidentally, as they are currently on sale, I just asked my shop Horsepower Sales about these NT05R's today, and they told me they have many high horsepower customers using them with great success. I think mostly for street duty in these blown cars.

Yes, that 18x9.5 should be perfect for those 275s.
As for 10.5 wide, they might be a little wide for 275s but will allow you to use wider tires in the future if need be.

I will second the confirmation that the base C5 18" wheels with 305's fit very nicely on the C6, they are about perfect. I would think the wider ones would stick out.
I believe that the base OEM cast aluminum C5 18X9.5 rear wheel has a 65mm offset.
Yes, the standard C5 LS1 rear 18" rims are 65mm...just seek out a 'stock rear C5 size' aftermarket wheel (or simply, an actual rear C5 LS1 wheel LOL ) and you'll be fine.

Unfortunately no, only their newer NT-05R comes in a 19" and that's a big 345-30-19.

Why not use the NT05? It is a road course tire and is the same compound as the 555R. Both the 555R and NT05R are drag radials and will have that "sloppy" rear end feel. Also, according to the Nitto website the NT05 is rated better in dry performance than the 555R

the NT05R are still on the table but part of the reason for going with 555R is diameter. The NT05R diameter for a similar size tire 285/40DR 18 is 27.09. I know this is very close to the 26.90 on the PS2 and might be just fine. I just want to swith to the DR tires on the weekend and back to PS2 on monday. do you know if shift points remain the same using the slightly larger diamter?
i just want to be very sure of this before I spend the money. where i live there are not many I can talk to about this type of change to the car.
