Default Vararam intake broken!!!!! Help!!!!

I looked under the hood of my '07 and saw the Vararam intake was broken right where it goes into the rubber tubing. Last time it was touched was about a month ago when I had the dealer replace a leaking oil pan gasket. Don't know how long I've been driving with it broken but the inside of the rubber tubing has dirt in it and no doubt dirt got into the engine. How much damage to the engine could have been caused by it sucking in dirty air for a month. I've probably driven about 1,000 miles in that month. Any thoughts on who should be responsible? Vararam or the dealer?

I've never seen nor heard of a break such as that happening with a Vararam but I'm thinking the dealership might've caused that one upon (improperly) removing/reinstalling it (if they did so when doing the other repair that is). Appears to be an overtightened clamp to me.
I would contact Vararam and see if they can work something out with you on that one piece.
I would likely also delete this thread before doing so as well.

Any ideas on how much damage can be caused to an engine sucking in unfiltered air for 1,000? That's my main concern. I live in Arizona where it's very dusty.

It's certainly not good, but that's what oil filters and oil changes are for, to catch any fine particles that might find their way into the motor from doing constant damage...I would change both ASAP. I'm sure you still have your MAF screen in place so that would've kept any larger pieces out of course.

Looks like someone used an air-tool to tighten the clamp.

Change your oil and order a new top section from VaraRam. You can send your oil out for analysis if you want to try to quantify any potential damage.

And find a new mechanic to work on your car. If it isn't a warranty issue there's no reason to take it to a Chevy dealer.

Thanks. I'm changing both tomorrow.

Where would I send the oil to?

google oil analysis, there are several labs that test.
Also check out "Bobistheoilguy.com" forum for good oil info. You should be able to find some highly recommended labs that forum users send their oil into for testing.
