Ok.....so I have been digging up all the axle threads I can find. And I'm confused on which axles are stronger ?? C5Z or the C6Z's(post '07) ?? If you do a search in the C6 section they say C5Z's are stronger then if you search the same thing in the C5 section they say C6Z's(post '07).
So could someone please enlighten me on which is the truth and maybe some facts to back it up.
my experience as been the stock c6 are stronger than the c5z axles, I broke two c5z axles running street tires on the street rolling about 5 mph stabbing the throttle. I have ran stock c6 at the strip with slicks all day with no problems. you could not give me another set of c5z axles. I have sense gone to DSS axles.
The reason for the question is at my power level the pro's say I can run C6Z axles. I called the 3 major axle guys and all three said just puy C6Z axles in. So I came to the C6 section and started roaming around and every thread said they were putting C5Z's in there C6's. I was confused and leery of just being sold something I didn't need.
If it helps it makes 480ish rwhp and 650ish on the spray, she weights 2880 without me. And yes I do practice the Ranger/J-rod/Robz ect.. launches. Meaning the RXT gets plenty of abuse but no big rpm drops, I'm aggresive off the line but I don't drive it like I own a parts store.

Just something to consider, but you don't necessarily want the axles to be the strongest component back there.
While I'm sure it's quite possible to find a set that'll withstand pretty much any level of HP/TQ you can throw at it, for me at least I'd rather have my halfshafts be the weak link as it's a lot cheaper to replace a $300 part rather than a differential or transmission, both of which would likely cost you upwards of $3000.
And I do agree to some extent about engineering a weak link. But I'm sure the C5Z or the C6Z axles are not that strong. From what I hear, 650rwhp is where the C6Z axle becomes suspect. (totally dependant on your driving style)
