When I get the car close to 80mph+ i start to feel the steering wheel vibrate and what feels like a body vibration. My first thought was to do a wheel balance or alignment.
My wife and I have a 2008 jeep Rubicon and balancing the tires fixed a very similar issue but at a lower mile per hour.
I think I'm just going to get the tires balanced however, I wanted to see what you guys were thinking or if anyone has had similar issues.
2008 manual with 26k miles.
Do these cars drive smooth or is a rough ride something to expect?
Find a shop with a Hunter Road Force balancing machine (use Hunter's website), which will also find out of round or out of true tires. Have them get the road force on each wheel below 10, that may require rotating the tire on the wheel.
Our 2009 had the wheels balanced by two different shops but still had a vibration around 75 mph. Finally went to a shop with the Hunter Machine, it showed excessive road force on one front tire, they rotated the tire on the wheel and everything got smooth.
No guarantee about the Hunter rebalance fixing your problem, but it's usually the best place to start.
Bring your lifting pucks, Discount Tires in my area are morons. Don't know how to lift a C5/C6, and thought that a road force of over 20 on a front wheel was normal.
My car vibrated like that when I had a wheel bearing going out. See if the vibration/sound is more pronounced (or less) when turning in one direction. Try to find some big sweeping turns that are safe to take at speed (like an offramp).
I wish you the best of luck and hope that a rebalance takes care of this issue for you.

My 09 had the same issue. Had hunter road force done and it fixed everything. This was after letting 2 other shops try just a basic balance that did nothing.
Hope you see the same results.
Good news everyone! I got a 30$ balance and the car drives like a dream. Thanks for all your posts. Stock wheels for the member thar asked. My front tires are getting a little whorn however, a new set of all seasons are getting ordered.

Any suggestions on a all season tire??
I had the Michelin A/S ZP's on my C5 and loved them. Great when caught in a sudden downpour.
Had the same problem at the same speed and Discount Tire took care of it in 1 try. Tech. had to play with it on the balancing machine but when I left, it was good.
