Default Which roller rockers to purchase??

Ok so I've decided to go ahead and upgrade my stock rockers to full roller rockers to help my valvetrain geometry. Just wanted to see which rockers you guys recommend. And keep in mind, I'm trying to not break the bank in the process. Lol. Any help is appreciated.

I would agree but I'm sure they all perform well.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but why not use the factory rocker arms with a trunnion upgrade?

I think the trunnion upgrade is good, but, not to be argumentative either, when do you advise installing roller rockers?

For me, a roller rocker arm must add strength and be light enough on the tip to not inhibit valve control....

So far, the only roller rocker arm replacements to do this (ones that I've tested or have knowledge of) are Crane, Crower, Jesel, and T&D. With the exception of the Crane, all are shaft systems.

THis weekend I will be installing a set of Scorpion roller rockers 1.7 that I purchased thru a CF vendor. They were $325 with free shipping.

Agree.

All of those seem to have a great reputation. But they are more expensive. Have you used YT?

I thought Crane is out of business?

prw-usa.com

buy from jobberwarehouse.com

Stud mount rockers

pt#0234611

PRW 15-5ph Stainless Steel Rocker Arms, GM Gen III, LS1 5.7L 1997-08, 1.7 x 3/8", Complete Kit: Includes 16 - PRW 15-5ph stainless steel full roller, stud mount rockers, precision ground needle roller trunion bearings, PRW ROCKER-LOC adjusters, studs & 5/16" guide plates

pt#0234612 same but in a 1.8 ratio

After determining proper pushrod length you adjust them like the Gen II small block.

Shaft

pt#3334611

PQ Series Aluminum Shaft Rocker Arm System, GM LS1, Gen III, 1.7 Ratio, Platinum Series Shaft Rocker Arm System, including steel pedestal stand, 8 pairs of shaft-mount rockers with adjustable cup-style valve lash adjusters, shims, and other related fasteners and hardware

pt#3334612 same but in 1.8 these may need to have the pushrod hole in the head enlongated to prevent the pushrod from touching. I have a set of these for sale, if desired. I didn't feel like pulling the heads, maybe in the future when I change the heads.

Yes, the shaft systems are not inexpensive but they are the best way to go. You will not give up valve control and any rocker arm geometry issues become a thing of the past (although the factory rocker is very accurate)

I haven't used the newest YT's - I saw them at the PRI show and stopped to discuss their new offset rockers for the LS3 & LS7 - I believe the fellow repping them there was Roger Vinci (highly respected and knowledgeable) and he swore that they worked out the valve control. Certainly worth a try.

Crane has been acquired but I am not sure about the rocker arms.

Crane reopened under new ownership. I ferget the name off hand but it's a large Harley retailer.

Also, take a look at the original Crane Gold rockers and Scorpion rockers and then the whole line of Scorpion ....

It's funny that Roger would be pushing YT since he was so firmly entrenched with Crane. His website still carries Cranes cams and rockers.

YT are budget aluminum roller rockers priced similar to the Scorpion. The T&Ds and Jesels are in a whole different price level and seem to be at the top of the field. If I had built my motor to run at a higher RPM than I do now, then I definitely would be looking at them. Overall, I am satisfied with the YT.

The only reason why I Decided to go with roller rockers instead of just doing the trunion upgrade was due to everyone on here saying how bad my valvetrain geometry was off with my high lift cam. Cam is 644/651. What would you recommend?

That is high lift and a roller tipped, adjustable roller rocker arm would be ideal.

I would use a set of Crane Gold, 1.7:1 LS1 adjustable rocker arms. They will come with all the pieces needed including studs, guide plates, pushrods and of course the rocker arms.

Others may work and be reliable but the Cranes I guarantee will carry the RPM band completely and not "nose over".

Well how m does a set of cranes run? And I've already got hardened pushrods so I won't need them. And I really don't want to get into adjustable ones since I'm not really versed in adjusting valvetrain components
