Default C6 DND... engine is fine... Thoughts?

So I recently bought a manual 2005 C6 and love the hell out of it!

But I started to notice that I had trouble getting it in to gear... almost as if there was a notch before it would go into gear. I know these aren't supposed to feel lime BMWs or S2000s but it was getting worse. And sometimes when coming to a stop I would have trouble getting into 2nd or first gear. Sometimes it just would not go into first until i placed it into second and then back to first.

I was about to take it to get looked at over the weekend when something broke. I shifted into second at about 5.5k rpm and when I released the clutch and punched it, there was a crashing noise and then my vette would not accelerate. I thought I didn't get it into gear at first.

My clutch was catching fine and I doubt it would glaze over... and there is fluid in the master cylinder. I am guessing it is something in the tranny. When I try and drive there is a bad grinding noise... could a gear be stripped or a shaft be Effed? It almost tries to move forward but just doesn't... There were no fluids leaking out of the bottom either and no engine lights or anything came on.

Ideas? I am waiting for my carmax extended warranty to change names before i can take it to a shop.

Thanks for your help!

Check and make sure your rear end isn't cracked. It happens a lot. Believe it or not, mine actually didn't leak but was cracked in half when it was removed. Actually it leaked a little in the trailer but not much.

After they unbolted it, it looked like this.

If that's not the case with yours (which I'm afraid it is), the fact that it tries to go sounds like what happens when a ring gear strips. You might be able to get the car to go a bit if you push it forward 3 feet into a spot that works.

Good thing you have a warranty...as when the rear goes usually the trans mainshaft is bent too.

Aftermarket warranties often pay to have the work done at speed shops...for example, Horsepower Sales in Pompano in my sig accepts all aftermarket warranties, AND the GMPP extended warranty. The reason I say this is that you might consider upgrading your weak 05 rear to either a c5 rear which is stronger, or a 06+ rear. The dealer won't do this but shops that accept aftermarket warranty repairs might.

Here's some info on the bracket you'll need for a c5 rear...they bolt right up with this bracket.

There is an excellent trans/rear builder in the Baltimore area I believe. Well Maryland, so it can't be too far.

He's built rears and trans for several of my Forum friends in the area.

Ragtopws6 contact him here.

Awesome, thanks for the tip. I just spoke to EB3 in VA and they said they could do it. and if not then they are about 4 miles from a carmax shop.

Cheers
