Today I let my girlfriend drive my car so I could listen to how it sounds.
The car pops on deceleration which I know is normal on cars with headers. I used to have an auto 06 with lg 1 3/4 headers, cats, C6 bulltes and they popped loud but it was a deep sounding pop
On this 08 car I have a Cam, TSP 1 7/8 headers, catless, Z06 borla stingers. The pop sounds LOUD like a backfire explosion. PAT!!! ( I also get a rattle on shifts but I know its the catless set up)
What can the back fire be? Tune, cats, cam, style of x-pipe?
If the car is running OK, the pop you are hearing is most likely caused by a leak in your exhaust system. There are always some unburned hydrocarbons in the exhaust stream and when you have a leak and air is introduced during decel, you hear the fuel/air mixture "pop" in the exhaust. Tighten your header bolts and all clamps on the exhaust and your popping may go away. Good luck.

The way you explain the popping it sounds pretty bad but I'm sure it's normal. I have full exhaust with 1.75" headers and sometimes when I'm on/off the gas and then decelerate it will sometimes pop louder than other times. Personally, I love it. I actually try to get it to it sometimes.
If you're that worried about it try and post a video of it. This way we know what exactly it's doing.
I completely over-looked the fact that you don't have cats. I'm sure what you're experiencing is normal. I have hi-flow cats and it pops loud sometimes so I can only imagine how much amplified the noise is.
Adding cats will reduce it for sure. Tuning could also help in this situation to.
