I have a 2008 Z51 with dual mode exhaust. I would like a more throaty sounding exhaust, especially at idle. Can I purchase an aftermarket exhaust, which utilizes the dual mode mechanics? or would I have to remove the dual mode exhaust mechanics?
If you like the way it sounds all the time, all you have to do is pull the fuse for the NPP. There are instruction here that can be located via search.

I installed the M2W switch to my factory NPP exhaust, but it was still WAY too quiet for my taste.
I spent a little cash and installed the B&B Fusion, which utilizes the factory vacuum hoses to operate butterfly valves similar to the factory ones.
One big difference. The B&B Fusion is LOUD! I only close the flaps on the highway, top up, on an extended trip.
The B&B Fusion is the absolute best money I've spent on my GS.
Sweet 4" tips too.
(P.S. I would not recommend B&B bullets, which don't give you the ability close the valves. Significant drone. I've heard it described as "Unbearable". Those suckers are LOUD!!!)

my Fusions are my favorite mod and force me to turn off the radio!
Another option to consider is headers. IMHO, you have a great exhaust system already. Headers will make a significant change in sound and should add 25-30 rwhp. Then add a switch to control the flaps or pull the fuse.
Thanks for the replies. I now understand my options!! I did have 1 question. What is IMHO. Is this a type of header or a manufacturer? Thanks.
IN MY HUMBLE OPINION. I installed the m2w 2 button remote and use my exhaust in the open position 98% of the time. Nice, nice sound. You can control the butterflies however and whenever you want to. It took 3 minutes and no effort to install, just do it you"ll love it.
Thanks guys - I removed the NNP fuse and what a difference!!. I am going to order the W2M switch and get either headers and/or exhaust over the winter.
