Does anyone know if the bulb(s) in the CHMSL (third brake light) can be changed without removing the entire rear bumper cover?
The previous owner to my '05 coupe had replaced the stock CHMSL with a wide LED version and one of the LED's is burned out. He also had a Specter Group 6 spoiler installed, which he told me is screwed on, so I have to deal with that.
The service manual (which is more than a little confusing) leads me to believe that the third brake light must be changed after removing the rear cover.
However, I wonder if the taillights were removed, can you get the to the third brake light fasteners?
Yes, just remove one or both inboard tail lights. The nuts on the CHMSL are 10mm, probably just hand tight. Will likely need a deep socket to put on the nuts, whether you can just turn with your fingers or a ratchet. And you should probably put some rags or towels inside the bumper cover "in case" you drop one of the nuts.......don't laugh, it's happened.
