Default Removing the oil loop from the radiator

How much benefit do you thing would be obtained by removing this cooling loop from inside the radiator and using a dedicated oil cooler with its own fan?

HUGE. In-radiator oil coolers are inefficient and often only serve to heat up your coolant! You are limited to cooling the oil only as low as your coolant temp. If there is a huge difference between your water and oil temps they can be effective, as liquid to liquid cooling is more efficient than air to liquid. But if your water temps are high you are not getting much help, and most Corvettes run hot. The only advantage to the built in oil coolers is the space saved by doing so.

Air temp is much much lower (even on a hot day) even if it's not as efficient.

You just need to make sure there is a constant flow of air across the new cooler.

Youll be able to drive harder for longer periods of time with the extra cooling.

The forum store sells a Z06 oil cooler kit for 750 - 800 depending on your engine.

You also have the option of upgrading the radiator to a bigger direct fit version for your car. Z51 versions with the oil cooler are available. The store also a dual fan kit that will fit the aftermarket radiator and cool the setup down even further.

Hope this helps!

That's a good package, but if you're ok with a little "DIY" you can buy a cooler from about anywhere for $100, and about $100 in Aeroquip lines and a sandwich adapter.

What problem as you trying to solve? What are you coolant and water temps?

If your coolant temps are under 240° and full synthetic oil under 270° during aggressive driving, you should be fine. Cooler oil means it takes longer for moisture to boil off.

I finished a couple of days at Watkins Glen earlier this week. Ambient temps were in the mid to high 80s, coolant temp was running about 220 and oil temp was running 260. That is in a Z06 with an outside oil cooler. When I ran my C5Z with a Ron Davis racing radiator with built in EOC it would run 200 deg coolant and 230 oil before I put in a thermostatic bypass valve because the radiator cooled the oil too much on cold days.

If you want your trans to come up to the proper operating temp in cool/cold weather you need the radiator loop. Later! Frank

Not really trying to solve anything right now, just brainstorming.
Actually my coolant temp are running right around "194 w/AC on" and "189 w/AC off" on the highway on 90 deg ambient air temp day. I am running a YSi on a 402 stroker with the factory Z51 radiator and have not seen the need to mod yet.
