Default A6 filter/fluid change interval...recommended ATF

OK...this has probably been beat to death somewhere...My 08 w/A6 is setting at 10k miles. Question..is it too soon for transmission ATF and filter change? If you have done yours ....what is your recommendation for fluids/ATF....????

Thanks...Sam and his horse...QuickSilver...

Way too soon. It's rated for 100,000 miles. There have been discussions of that being too long in some cases, resulting in necessary rebuilds. Don't know about that.

It's your car and your money, do what makes you feel good.

Just some reading for info:

The procedure just to check the fluid level:

In my opinion, its never too soon. Automatic transmissions are expensive to have rebuilt.
However, its recommended that you change it every 20to 25 k if you drive hard or live in a hot area, every 50k if you drive slow in colder areas

To Give you an example, I have an 08 6 speed manuel at the time with 19,000 miles, when I drained the tranny fluid it was lightly pink. When I added the GM spec stuff. It was like night and day shifting, was really smooth. I reccommend changing it at least once. Then go from there.

The original fluid breaks down cause of heat. The new fluid would be good for the automatic clutches inside the tranny.

I just did a 'fliud exchange and used the G.M. fliud. 27k on speedo. Did not pull pan or do filter yet. Was having work done at dealer,Maxi Price in Loganville and they had a good price on the exchange service. $ 129.95. I will do filter and top off if I have car that long at about 60k

Owner Manual on our 2009 A6 says to change fluid & filter at 50k under severe use, 100k under normal use.

I'm probably closer to "Normal" than "Severe", but I changed all the various fluids in my car except coolant, during the first 10k miles. Plan to change the tranny again at 50k and send a sample to Blackstone Labs for their opinion.

You are allowed to think I over-maintain my car...

I drain, drop pan, install new A6 trans filter and inspect gasket, replace pan, and refill trans. I have over 110,000 miles on my 07 Z51 A6 and drive it hard. I have the above done every 20,000 miles or so. I also drain & refill the diff at the same time. IMO it is cheap, easy to do, and gives me good piece of mind. Enjoy your Vet!

I have the fluid 'exchanged' every 30K miles and change the filter out every 60K.
