Default bi mode Muffler question

Will 08 z06 bi mode mufflers be a direct replacement in my base 05. Is anything different as far as bolting them in.

No, the Z06 bimode will not bolt in. they will have to be cut and welded. The '08 (only) NPP is a bolt in.

As noted the Z06 mufflers (from any year) will not be a bolt on. The plumbing on your car is 2.5" diameter pipe. The Z06 is 3". The only way to put Z06 mufflers on your car is at some point in the system you will need to have an adapter pipe fabricated to go from 2.5" to 3".

The Z06 mufflers have the same inlet size as the NPP (2.5") but the pipe to the muffler is larger (3.0").

The Z06 mid-pipe ends with 3.0" diameter, the Z06 pipe to the muffler from the mid-pipe is 3.0".

The NPP mid-pipe ends with 2.5" diameter, the NPP pipe to the muffler is 2.5".

They way to do this is to buy a full Z06 exhaust from manifolds to mufflers if you have a manual transmission. If you have an automatic your only choice is to cut the 3.0 inch pipes off the Z06 cans about 3/4 of an inch from where they go into the can. Since the Z06 mufflers neck down to 2.5 anyway you are not loosing anything. Take your stock mufflers and cut the 2.5 inch pipe off these as close as possible to the can and have them welded on the Z06 cans. Then get a NPP in a box system so you will have bi mode muffler control. Since you have a convertible you will have to use the 2.5 inch pipe off your old mufflers. If you choose to use the 3.0 inch pipe it will hit the frame and make a lot of noise while driving on anything but smooth roads. I did this mod on Tuesday this week on my 07 A6 convertible. The sound is great at speed quite with no drone, even with the valves open. Good Luck with this mod, its a good one.

For a easy bolt on, you could get the B&B Fusion for your vette. I have it on my 2005 and it was a pretty easy install. Sounds amazing too.

If I go to a Muffler shop and put them on without hooking up the valves will they stay open or closed. And are the brackets that hold the Muffler the same.

Agreed, did the same last Friday with 08 Z06 Muffs that I modded and put on my 09 Vert. Sounds great, they will stay open if you don't have a M2W or similar switch. Mine does have some drone when open @ highway speeds. It is a little louder than stock when closed. But I love it! As everyone says, best of both!

Brackets are the same.

NO year Z06 is a bolt in, only an '08 NPP will bolt in without cutting or welding.

With no controller the valves stay open.
