I'm replacing my pads on my 06 (Z51) and I have everything apart and when I opened the new pads (OEM) I found a part that I can't figure out what to do with. There wasn't an old one on the car (I'm the original owner and this is the 1st brake replacement). What is it and where does it go?
I think that's called an anti-rattle clip. When I've ordered replacement pads, I've never gotten them included. I think that you probably do have them. They go inside the caliper and put light pressure on the pads pushing them towards the center of the wheel. You may have felt the slight pressure you had to apply to push the caliper towards the center of the wheel to get the bolt holes to line up when reassembling. That was the anti-rattle clip putting up the resistance. I think you can continue using the old clips without any problem since I've never replaced mine.
Thanks, but I my brain must be running on reduced power mode. I don't see how it attaches to the back of the pad. I looked around and do not see old ones anywhere
Flip the clip over. The tangs on either end should snap around the edge of the pads. You can use liquid anti-rattle material instead of these if you wish. Your local auto parts store should have some.
So they bridge the 2 pads then, sitting on top of each pad? I'm just not visualizing it. Thanks for being patient....
That is correct. On the backside of the pad on the side next to the caliper piston. No problem with being patient. We are all here to help each other. Good luck.
