Greetings! New member TurboTR here in Austin, TX. Please forgive me if this has been covered before. Couldn't find it in a search. Question is, is it possible to do a full manual A6 in a C6 vette? And shift it old school style with a cable type shifter perhaps. The goal here is a very high power performance type application along with a non-lockup converter.
With enough fabrication/alteration/customization almost anything is possible...but the end result would probably leave you with very few performance gains (if any) over what a good torque converter and tune would give an A6 right now. It might result in some more fun while shifting though.
One is likely better off converting to a TH400 or Powerglide (which also takes away all of those extra gears as well of course) for what you're looking for.
A built 4L65 or even 4L80 is another option but even there your shifter assembly ideas might not apply.
Yes a full manual 4L80 would be perfect. Anyone here done this? And assume they added a cable shifter as well.
Had a full manual TH400 in my last fast street car (turbo Buick) and it was actually quite fun on the street with a ratchet shifter. And at the track it rocked of course. But lacked a 4th gear like the 4L80 offers, which I'd feel is manadtory for this fast street/strip app.
Why are you set on a full manual transmission? Late model electronically shifted transmissions work without any issues. We have many full auto 4L60e and 4L80e transmissions in the low 9s and high 8s for the 4L80e's.
Well for one, it takes all the trans tuning aspect out of the mix. And two, it's fun to shift it (to me).
I've been meaning to call your shop in fact to try and pick your brains on this.

I gotcha. With the 6L80e you can't do any kindof manual setup because the transmission is fully electronic. The 4L60e and 4L80e transmissions there are companies that make manual valve body kits but they just don't function very well so we don't use them at all.
