I trimmed with tin snips, however IIRC the isolator on my 08 was round, regardless, the hole was cut slightly smaller then the diameter then the shifter body so it fit like a glove.

I just left that piece out. Everything seems to work fine. No noise, no vibration, no increase in heat.

I followed the instructions that say to trim it.

The directions I got said to trim the lower cover. Note the holes in the OP's pic vs the tabs in the one on the MGW pics..

I trimmed the lower cover and manhandled the top cover on since that step was not mentioned in the instructions. This seems to "puff up" the boot, so i'm thinking about taking it off this weekend.

This is what I did to the lower boot. Its the upper boot I was concerned
about, that must be the one there referring to about cutting.

I'm getting ready to install on an 06, is this an issue for 2005-2007 vehicles too? I don't quite understand the problem; what interference does the boot present?

This is what the 2011 stock shifter looks like,

And this is what the MGW shifter looks like. So if yours looks like the above you will notice that the rubber boots do not fit the same, thus the trimming is needed. I believe the 08 through 11 are different than a 06 from looking at the installation CD that came with the MGW shifter.

Did anyone try calling MGW to see what they recommend?

I did call George, and he told me to trim the peace in my above post where the razor blade is shown.
