Default @@.....DART heads vs. LS3 or LS7 ported???..............................

I don't have experience with the DART heads, would there be much to gain with a switch to LS3 or LS7 heads

the pricing on the LS3 units is looking very good.

Thanks

Most everybody uses AFR or TrickFlow.

You didn't say what the bore size is they are going on ......

And DART no longer does the LS heads, they sold out to Comp Cams

The former DART 205 was considered poor performing w/o port work while the 225 was just OK

If you are talking about your LS1, neither the LS3 or 7 will fit the bore. However, for the money, MAST makes a small bore LS3 head.

The old AFR 205 was considered the head to have for an LS1 but is now a 210 port.

honestly I haven't confirmed the bore, what's the typical dimension when bored on a LS2?

I understand OEM LS2 is 4.0 and LS3 OEM bore is 4.065

My advice should ring truth since its common sense. Go with a proven combo instead of trying to reason it for yourself. Statistics arent in your favor trying to out think the owners of the cars on the 1/4 mile challenge. Trick flow heads are what is sitting on the fastest cars, not ported stock castings. In fact, no DIY'er has been able to reproduce the inflated results of the tuners who used ported castings.

I just tuned a car that used advancd induction heads on a LS3 stroker in a GTO and it was average, not terrible, but certainly not killing a box stock set of LS3 heads. You wouldnt know it from the posts yu see on these heads. A guy makes 714HP on an engine dyno with a 416 stroker with a carb intake at 6900rpm at 12.8:1 compression on E85 and its supposed to serve as proof of what guys would get on an L76 intake street car? Secret cam specs too.

Do youself a favor: if you're on a budget, get box stock LS3 heads and you will see about 470rwhp on your LS2. A huge cam and more compression will net you 480rwhp. If you want more to the tune of 520rwhp, get the exact combo that made it. I've never seen a ported LS3 head live up to the hype and make anywhere near that.

I have stock unported LS3 heads on my car. I've used ported LS3 heads fro WCCH and Adav Induction.....save your money for an AFR or trick Flow head if you want 500+rwhp. They dont have huge CFM numbers but still make 500+rwhp which only goes to show CFM means nothing when velocity falls as these ported LS3 heads all see over 350cfm and dont make that same power.

Trick Flow 225 + G6X3 cam +FAST = 520-530rwhp on the LS2.....and they can run 10.5X in the 1/4.

Was this on a dynojet with current software?

Just to weigh things out here

I have the Dart heads now, better off to sell them for 1g/pair and invest in some LS3 heads?

I have stock ls3 heads and a decent (231/240) cam and as alot of people have said dyno numbers don't tell the story. I made 445/427 to the tire but yet I run consistant 10.8s and a best of 10.78 All with the unported l76 intake on my ls2. I'm number four on the ls2 list and I hope to reach number 3 in the next few weeks. I have done no weight lightening and I run 3.42 gears and an a4

my title wording is off..........I'm looking for info pertaining to the Dart heads

Thanks.

No doubt the LS2/3 is capable of some stout numbers with the correct H/C setup

Since you already have the DART heads why don't you send them out for porting, there is a shop in RI that knows them well.

My ported LS3 heads seem to do the job quite well. Highest dyno was 850rwhp@12psi. 9.8 compression motor, my custom cam, and a base ECS kit. Run's back to back to back 9.8's in full street trim with no weight removed and as fast as 149mph off the bottle. I'd have no issues running them on an NA car either.
