All 4 of my TPS worked, until I just now reprogrammed them again with the TIPS tool. I have used this TIPS tool several times, and it works perfectly.
After reprogramming them this time, only 3 of them registered. The left rear did not register after being reprogrammed, although it was registering 30psi before the reprogramming. It didn’t show any readings….it didn’t show 0psi, 30psi, or any numbers at all. While the other 3 showed 26psi (or so).
What are you thoughts, did it suddenly go bad ONLY after I reprogrammed it? If so, why didn’t the others go bad?
Replacing it will be expensive, I’ve done it before at Chevy, after Tire Kingdom couldn't do it properly.
If it were me, I would go through the reprograming steps again and then take it for a 15 minute drive. Then see where you are. You are dealing with electronics and radio frequency and may just have had a "hiccup".
If they are the original OEM TPMS, they may just be old and need to be replaced. The TPMS in my 2005 were replaced last year. I started getting random warnings for flat tires that weren't flat. When I had the wheels changed, 2 could not be reprogrammed. I ended up replacing all four and all are now working perfectly. No more false alarms!
Some will tell you that they are good for 10 years. I have found, like many others, that they will start to fail after 5 years.

You should have gotten a double beep of the horn after the left rear programmed. If it didn't program you would not have gotten the horn beeps. It is possible but not likely that was the last gasp of the sensor's battery and it needs to be replaced but I suspect you need to repeat the re-programming. Not sure why you would reprogram them if they were working. Reprogramming only registers the sensors with the car so it knows which transmissions to listen to and where they are coming located. It does nothing for sensor accuracy. Another one of those "If ain't broke, don't fix it" lessons.
The strength of the radio transmission from TPMS tools can be affected by the strength of the batteries in the tool.
The left rear you had problems with was the last one you triggered, so maybe the tool had weak batteries that were just a little too weak at sensor number 4.
Put fresh batteries in the tool and give it another try.
When the 4th didnt register, or beep, I went through the programming process 3 or 4 additional times, all with the same result......3 sensor beeped and registered, the 4th didnt.
I will try driving the car around for a bit tomorrow and see if that helps.

You should only get one beep at the first 3 wheels and 2 beeps at the last wheel driver side rear.

If the fourth one did not give you a double beep, then the entire procedure was not completed and the first three did not get programmed either. It's either all four or nothing...you can't program less than four.
And Bob is right about the batteries in the TIPS tool...I have noticed that mine has a significant performance drop off if the batteries in it are not fresh. You can even take them out and use them in something else that is not so sensitive...I used mine in my electric toothbrush for quite a while after they were no good in the TIPS.
It goes without saying...no rechargeables in the TIPS...alakaline or lithium only.
Before taking the Vette out on the road I tried again to reprogram all 4 tps. Got beeps on the 1st 3 only, again. I took it and drove it around about 20 minutes or so. The entire time it showed readings for the 1st 3 tires, and XXX for the left rear tire.
So I took it home and put it in the garage, then for spits and grins I tried to reprogram them again. FINALLY they all worked and I got the double beep for the last tire.
Maybe the driving around for a while did the trick? But if so I dont see why it would still display XXX until I turned the car off. Maybe the driving around caused it to be ready, but it still required a reprogramming to get rid of the XXX.
