Only problem I have had was an occassional "blank screen" on the Nav screen when I started the car. This happened less than 10 times in 3 years. This was fixed under warranty (software fix) and since then, no problems. Don't be afraid, they are great cars!
I have an O7 vert that I drive the hell out of -- here is what I would look for when buying the 08.
1. look at the outside of the cloth top along the back edge on the roof and on the sides for signs of wear. The top tends to rub when down and wears holes in it.
2. Look inside the cabin at the top for signs of water intrusion -- it is rare but some tops do not set well and thus allowa water intrusion.
3. common to all Corvettes is the wear on the front seat and colapsed foam.
4. Start the corvette several times and listen for the click click start problem and/or the voltage gauge to swing below 12.5v and not recover .. this is a sign the that soleniod and/or alternator and/or battery will need to be replaced.
5. Look for excessive tire wear on the outside edges --- this will tell you if the previous owner has driven the vette hard ...
6. look under the front of the bumper and make sure all the plastic valance pieces are present -- there should be 3 . Also note how many scrapes are present.
7. the bumper wings should be tight and not have to be pushed down. If they are not, a clip is busted -- very common on C6 ( easy fix but annoying ).
That is what I generally would look for with a vert ..
