Default what is this noise??

I went to the track Friday to try out my new tires and I now have a new noise. At the end of every run when I lift I get this " errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrr " noise that sounds like gears. here is a video clip, listen when I finish the race and I slow down. The car does not make the noise on the street and the second I turn off the track the noise is gone. I know all of my fluid levels are good.

That sounds like an unhappy automatic transmission. Next time knock it into Neutral during coast-down and see if the noise stops.

If so, a fluid change might be worth a shot...if no change then consider having the trans disassembled and beefed-up.

I drive my car every day and the trans has been acting fine I never hear this noise on the street. I just had an external cooler installed and the fluid looks good. The only thing different about the car is the new toyo tires and black rims.

Changing the tires might just be a coincidence. It does sound like your A6 may be going. I would look into that.

So what were you numbers?

I sent this thread to a friend of mine that owns a auto trans shop, and is a drag racer. We'll see what he says.

He says, "Sounds like the pinion is loose, or its support is gone."

He says, "Sounds like the pinion is loose, or its support is gone." I also thought it was rear end noise when I heard it.

So how do I find out for sure? The car drives 100% normal, the only time I hear this noise is when I am at the track and finished with my run.

I would say you only hear it after getting over 100mph at full throttle then lifting the gas. Parts break and wear out when we race. So get to a shop and tear it apart or run it until breaks.

Like he said, either teardown or run it to failure. I still think the noise is transmission, not differential, but it's impossible to know for certain.

I had an odd noise around 1800 RPM on deceleration coming from under the hood. It was the A/C compressor going.
