So my garage has taken on the quite overpowering smell of gas, which I've isolated to the gas cap in my 2008 coupe. I haven't had much luck searching on here for an answer (I'm new), so what have you guys tried that worked? I don't know if I just need to go to an auto parts store and buy a replacement cap (if so what kind?), or if there was some trick I don't know.
How did you isolate it to the cap? I have to think if the cap was leaking that bad it would throw a code with the car running. If you're certain it's the cap, just go to the dealer, I think they're about $10.....could even be warranty.....emissions part you know.
Sorry, I forgot to mention. There is no smell inside the cab, I've done the sniff test inside the engine compartment after sitting all night and after driving around for 10-15 minutes and there is no odor of any kind that I can pick up. I've looked around the bottom of the car and see no indication of gas dripping at all. I can easily smell gas within a foot of the gas cap though. Anything else it could be, but still smell like its the cap?

There have been lots of issues with the gas caps. The dealer will replace it for you if it's faulty. When putting the gas cap on don't exert inward pressure. Just seat it gently and turn it in clockwise. It will tighten on it's own and ratchet properly.
Put an aftermarket lockable gas cap on and it seemed to fix the problem until I refueled. I've heard that a full gas tank on the C6's can still smell till you drive a bit and burn some off. I guess we'll see tomorrow.
bought a2005 warning came on about the gas cap so i went to buy a locking gas cap but the warning still flashed so i went to the dealer and he said you cant use a locking gas cap because it will not seal right so he put a new gas cap on and the warning never came on i drive truck so the vette sits a couple of weeks at a time so i figured i would put the locking cap on till i got back i came back and forgot to switch caps but the warning never came back on so either it sealed the way its suppose to or they pulled the fuse so the warning doesnt come on but i never smelled gas from anywhere

If you do have a defective fuel cap, it is covered under the emission warranty [Policy "E"], which is 5 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first.
