I don't have any pictures yet but I'll post some a little later. My car's a 07 Black C6 it has a small q-tip sized spot on the hood, one on the door and one on the rear fender near the fender well. The spot is like a mix of oil and water and gives that rainbow hue. The clear coat is not damaged at all and it seems to be coming from the inside out. If anyone can determine what this is or even have this problem please let me know.
I've seen all sorts from bird poo damage to fallout but this is something I haven't seen before.
Looks like droplets of motor oil got on there. Not sure if that can be buffed out or not, but i would find a good detailer before considering painting.
I've forgotten to add that it has been polished, waxed, clay bar'd and not in that order by a detailer. I can't get really HD pictures yet but when I look closely it appears to be under the clear coat with no penetration to the clear coat.
if its not just some oil on the outside, then its a sign that the paint in that area is going to start peeling.
you will have to have that area thoroughly cleaned and sanded then painted.

Would you say this could be a factory mistake? Car has 13K miles and there are three of these spots. One on the hood, one on the driver fender and one on the passenger door.

Im not exactly sure how it happens. You usually see it on older vehicles, or vehicles exposed to chemicals.

May I ask what kind of experience you have dealing with paint? I ask because the "service director" that I'm suppose to meet with to get his opinion on what this is says his "33 years of experience being a service director and rep for GM qualifies him to determine a paint defect". So rather than just tell him that perhaps the next time I need to go to a doctor to cure my sickness I'll just have the receptionist do it, I'm going to see what his opinion is. One dealer has already said that this is due from fall out. Which I know is BS cause I have 15 years of caring for my cars.
Note that I'm not saying your opinion is not taken seriously but this guy is suppose to determine if it's covered or not. I'm just trying to find another credible person that owns a corvette.
I have the same tiny marks on my 08 Crystal red coupe. It looks to me like there is an air bubble between the paint and clear coat. Should be a warranty issue, im gonna find out soon.

Could you let me know what they say? The first dealer I went to says "fallout" funny how it doesn't come off with the clay bar. The rest of the car is like a mirror so I don't think they could say I don't take care of it.
Did u buy used? I seriously doubt it cane from the factory like that. If it did why was it never fixed? If u bought used did u not see this during inspection of the car? Looks like more than air bubbles, but I am by no means an expert. It looks like paint contamination to me.

I'm going to have to say I am completely shocked. GM TAKES CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS! Turns out to be a factory defect. My cost $100 to be covered out of warranty. GM will cover 99% of the repair! My faith has been strengthened. It really does matter which dealer you go to!

Im not a professional mechanic or a painter. But I am experienced in both.
From what I have seen on other cars and including one of the older cars I still own - if that isnt oil or some other chemical on the top, and its got that sheen to it, then its generally been a situation where the clear coat is getting ready to coming up. It looks like it does every time Ive seen clear coat on its way to getting peeled off. Be careful for now until it gets repaired. If you can keep a cover over the car and keep it indoors when its not being used, youll be better off.

Hope this helps
Thanks for your advice! Turns out the dealer is going to cover it out of warranty and just have me cover 1% of the cost. Good deals. I say they should cover it completely cause its a factory defect but something is better than nothing I suppose.
Are they repainting the entire car? Even so, I don't think it is going to cost them $10,000 to fix.
I'm really against the painting of the car to begin with...lowers the value of my car. I don't plan to sell but if I do I suppose I ain't getting as much when I tell the new owner it needed to be repainted on these spots...
