Am considering buying my first C6, an 05, m6, Z51 with 22K miles. A previous posting alerted me to the crank bolt failure issue. The vette I'm looking at has a vin (09177) prior to the fix (11039 and later). Best of my knowledge this has not been fixed. Is this a red flag and best to stay away? Or would failure (if it was going to fail) already have occured by now?
I'm buying from the second owner who has had it for about 2 years and 10K miles. He can not provide service records from first owner to document a fix.
If you have the full VIN you can email it to one of these vendors and ask for the GMVIS report. It will show you all repairs that GM has done on the car.
I am happy to run a GMVIS report for anyone. You just have to email me directly. gculley@gmpartshouse.com
Shoot me the VIN in an email and I'll send you back the report. kevin@partstaxi.com
I'm no expert on it but I think that is one of those things that really needs to be done, if for no other reason than peace of mind. Others may chime in with better insight. Good luck.
Gene was nice enough (many thanks) to run the vin. Report says "J0710 Pulley, crankshaft balancer - replace" at 60 miles. Does this address and fix the crank bolt failure issue?
