TPMS question. OK Guys - I know the tpms sensors are year specific but is there a way you can use the late model (2010 and up) sensors in a earlier model year car? Is there a way to make the computer accept the newer year model tpms frequency?
The reason I ask is that I want to keep my original factory wheels with run flats and purchase a new set of forged wheels that come with late model sensors and mount some new sticky shoes. TIA Guys.

The 2005-2009 C6 uses a tire pressure sensor with one part#, and the 2010 and newer uses a different part#.

They aren't interchangeable - you must use sensors compatible with your model year. There's no way to change the TPMS computer in the car.

All you need to do is buy a set of sensors. I see them available on eBay for around $80 to $90 for a set of 4.

I was reviewing this thread and have a BTW to add concerning this question in the original post:

.....Is there a way to make the computer accept the newer year model tpms frequency?
So.....BTW, all year sensors for the C6 and C5 (and AFAIK, all sensors for all cars in the U.S.) transmit on the same frequency - 315MHz.

The European counterpart of our FCC requires a different frequency for tire pressure sensors in Europe, so a C6 built for Europe has a different TPMS and requires a sensor that transmits on 433.95MHz.

The tire pressure sensors in different model years of the C6 transmit different data streams of info that just aren't recognized or understood by the TPMS unless you have the proper sensors for the TPMS in your car.

For a U.S. 2005-2009 C6 you must use gray sensors with GM Part# 25758220.

For a 2010 or newer C6 you must use green sensors with GM Part# 15268606.

The data transmitted by the sensors is apparently in different formats and you must have the correct sensors for your model year.

Our sensors are made by Schrader and there are Schrader sensors distributed outside of the GM parts system that have different colors and different part#'s.

There are also some aftermarket sensors made by Oro-Tek or other manufacturers, but make sure you get the ones compatible with the OE sensors required for your model year.

Thanks Bob for your information. I'll look for a correct set in eBay.

Bob is correct regarding the color for the OEM . If you buy from E-Bay read the description carefully as some C-5 aftermarket are also grey.

Also, if you don't have a programmer, it is best to remember to pick one up.
