What you're likely seeing is the 'dual mode' or NPP exhaust option (standard on C6 Z06s/C6 ZR1s) that became available on base Corvettes starting with the 2008 model year.
It's a system that actually automatically opens a valve in the mufflers at roughly 3500rpm giving a fleer flow of exhaust gases and is even enough to cause a factory rating increase of 6 horsepower on models equipped with it.
Here is a little more info on it:

rwhp stands for rear wheel horsepower

For $100 you can buy a M2W controller that keeps the exhaust open all the time, and with the push of a button closes it to quiet it down if you get tired of the volume.
