I have a 2008 vette. With an Edelbrock supercharger, 554 H.P. Automatic LS-3 C-6 with stock rear gears. (223) I think. I would like to go to 315. I would like to know the advantages and disvantages of this move. I tried Richmond gears, as well as a few others and found out they only offer, 342, 373, 390 and 410 Ring & pinion I would like a complete sealed unit. DO you have to drop the trans for this install? THanks.

Your 2008 A6 either has 2.56 or the optional 2.73 rear gears. The 3.15 rear gears were the optional ratio with the A4 transmission and being a OE GM part, can be purchased from your Chevy dealer.
With the E-Force supercharger and it's greatly increased low end torque, I would be leery of going with the 3.15's. You might just blow the tires off everytime you get on it in first or second gear.
It is a good deal (though it was a little misleading as it's not actually a C6 Z06 rear) but 3.90 gears in a strong low end grunt style Edelbrock supercharged A6 car?!
I wouldn't recommend it.
Hi JoesC5, Thank you for the reply. Are you saying that the 315 differental, FOR the A4 auto trans will fit without a problem in my 08 LS-3 C-6 with no problem? Thanks.

I don't think he was saying that because I don't think the differential will fit without some major modification.
But I do believe that the A4's 3.15 gears (ring & pinion) themselves might fit inside your current carrier, but don't quote me.
Save your money! Just put a 2800-3200 torque converter in. Way more bang for the buck.
At the tack, yes, but on the street a geared car would be a lot more fun.
You can't exactly do much launching on the street with street tires, and from a roll the benefits of a torque converter are much less (although benefits still exist).

I have an 07 with eforce and 3.42 gears. Its definitely a blast on the street but has serious traction problems. I will be looking into tires soon to try and improve that.
Here is a table that I got off this Forum a short while ago. It may help your decision. Click on the appropriate box for the ratio your interested in and it will tell you the speeds for 1st thru 6th for all transmission types.
