Default Quick Header install question

I'll be putting in some Kooks headers on my C6 A6 and I"ve seen it can be done on jack stands. How high does the car have to be up on jack stands to have room for the deinstall/install.
Yes I did a search but nobody mentioned the height requirements.

Thanks
Kelly

I have used 19" jack stands and C6's are easy to get headers in/out.

If the jack stands are tall enough for you to crawl under the car, then they are tall enough to swap headers.

Default I installed my Kooks on jackstands.

I lifted mine on jackstands @ 16". the hardest part was aligning the xpipe section and getting the mufflers straight. you should be able to do it on the ground in 4-5 hours alone by hand. you may also want to swap out the tunnel plate while its all apart.

what is tunnel plate? I'm thinking about doing my own install as well. I have some mechanical knowledge and did my honda s2000 headers LONG LONG LONG LONG time ago. Any suggestions? I searched for a DIY but didn't find any.

it's a piece of aluminum that stiffens the bottom of the car. it attaches to both sides of the body with 30 bolts and when replaced with a thicker aftermarket plate will not only stiffen the chassis but also provide a better heat barrier between the exhaust and the cabin. the time to change it if you want to is when the exhaust is out. they can be found for @ $200. i hope this answers your questions.

do you recommend the thermal abs with it as well? Is it that efficient and worth the $100?

I ran the model with the additional "thermal ABS" but I usually buy top-shelf when I'm buying for the Vette. Elite Engineering had a sale going on very recently. Not sure if their prices are still good though. Here is the link to their sale thread...
