Default Need Modding advise

Hi guys im new here, I bought my C6 convertible new in 2006, I love the car but i think its time to wake it up a little. Im looking to do some minor bolt-ons. But i need some recomendations on intakes, Exhausts and tune combos. So i would really appreciate anyones recomendations on some nice exhaust and headers or thier experiences with some tuning and intakes. This car is just a cruser and im 50 years old so im not trying to get too crazy, just looking for a little better sound and some more power. thanks

Welcome to the Forum. I see that that was your first post!!! Hopefully many more will come. Certainly it gets addictive.

The first mod should be headers, high flow cats, cai, and a tune. Keep your stock exhaust for now. That's where I started. First, your car will feel as if you woke her up. Second, at least for a while, you will feel like you bought a new car. Third, it is not a huge increase in sound through stock mufflers, and if you want to really change the sound later, you can. Look in to Fusions or a used set of NPP (or Z06) mufflers.

You will fall in love with you car all over again, but the mods, like this forum, get addictive!! Good luck.

I installed a MagnaFlow exhaust, but everyone likes a different sound. I have a friend that installed B&B Bullets and loves the sound, but I think it is to loud, so I would go to an event and buy what sounds good to you.

A FAST intake is nice, and so is an MGW shifter if you have a manual trans. I would also change the trans and diff to RedLine.

Tune, find a good local person and have it tuned.

Just my opinion.

I'm only doing minor mods to my 07. However, I went over the top on my 02 Avalanche. If you are looking for more zip, and your car is an A6, your first mod should be a higher-stall converter.

I did an exhaust on the Avalanche first, followed by a CAI, then headers, then e-fans, then an MP112 Magnacharger, then a 2600 stall converter (stock is 1600 on the trucks), then a cam, and a smaller pulley for the Magnacharger at the same time as the cam install(went from the 3.4" as delivered to a 3.0" and am looking to step down to a 2.8" and call it quits). I've also been doing my own tuning with HPTuners for about 2 years now. I might never have put the Magnacharger on the truck if I'd done the stall first. This has been done over the course of the 9 years I've owned the truck. As has already been explained, once you start down the slippery slope it's sometimes hard to stop. It becomes an addiction but man is it fun!

All your mods (except the SC - For now), I have done on my 07 (See signature). They certainly are lots of fun. However, I still maintain that for his FIRST mods, he sould consider headers CAI and a tune, then go from there....

I have and like these mods: Callaway Honker Intake, Kooks Custom Headers, & Corsa Sport Exhaust.

Good luck with your mods & enjoy your Vet!

I assume you are out of warranty so let the fun begin!

1. Cold Air Intake
2. Headers, Hi-Flow Cats, Cat Back Exhaust
3. Tune

Later, possibly a cam install.

All of the above would be a nice wake up without getting too crazy. And if that isn't enough there is always the forced induction route!

The car is a manual, and i do need to be in compliance with emissions. i am also out of warranty.

Thanks for the input guys, i really appreciate it. I am leaning towards a staged approach, I like the headers, intake and tune as the first stage, however I dont want to waste time and money with experimentation. I tend to be a purist, " keep it simple"

I like the cam idea as a second stage...is there any upside to doing the cam at the same time rather than after as a second stage?

"davidtcpa" what manufacturer would you recommend for the Headers, high flow cat and Intake? also im not familiar with a good tuner.

This car is a cruiser and will likely never see the track. the cam idea sounds good, that way i can keep the edge on the occasional "beamer boy",what cam would suit my purpose?

First, the cam is a great mod and will have nothing to do with any of you stage 1 mods. You can do it now or wait. No problem.
Second, all of the name brand headers are good and should net you the same gains. I personally have lg all the way back to the mufflers, which are B&B Fusions.
Last, insofar as cai, I have K&N over Vararam, mostly because it tends to rain in South Florida A LOT. if I was in, say Arizona, I would choose Vararam.
The key is the tuner. That is where you need to check who is best in your area. In my area, we have several, but I won't use anyone but Horsepower Sales in Pompano Beach. I chose them for several reasons. They are Forum vendors, I was referred to them by a friend of mine, their reputation was stellar. Good luck on you mods!!

Then a cam
