During a recent trip my CD player, trunk release and more importantly my convertible controls failed. Eventually, all began working again and I strongly suspect that the system go too hot as a result of long days of driving. Has this occurred to anyone else, and if so, any known solution(s)?
Well, it's not normal for that to happen.
Unless you count the fact that the trunk release and convertible controls are probably de-activated while driving. Some functions like that require the car to be in "Park" for the automatic and Parking Brake set for the manual.

Any more details?
You're right that the features are deactivated until the transmission is in park. I experienced this when I pulled off the highway under and overpass to raise the roof. When I talked to the dealer rep, he was at a loss, adding that an overheating issue occurred in previous years but he had not heard of it in the '06. It first started several weeks ago when I noticed that the display for the ambient temp and the set temps started blinking while driving. It always stopped blinking the next day.
The flashing numbers on the climate control system, are usually a symptom that the control unit is about to die. Most people seem to replace them.
But I don't see how that would be connected to the convertible top and trunk controls. Or are you saying that your top/trunk didn't really "fail", they were just locked out at that time due to the transmission not being in Park?

No. Understand please that you are corresponding with an illiterate when it comes to mechanics. My suspicion is that due to the amount of heat radiating into the compartment and and under the dash that the electronics are being affected.

Just like anything, sometimes the electronic items in a Corvette will die an early death. But the climate control system seems to last a long time for most people, so I don't think the heat in the dash, which is not nearly as warm as the console, is causing problems.
If I'm understanding you correctly, your trunk and top controls do work normally, you just did not understand initially that they are supposed to be inop while driving.
But the climate control numbers are flashing.
Did I get that all correct?
If so, then you just need to be prepared to get a new climate control head installed. $$$, but not difficult for a competant tech.
