Hi, I tried to top out my '07 LS2 C6 a6 (2.56) and I did 170mph in 4th before it shifted into 5th, and after that it became slow with accelerating, I think the top speed suppose be around 186mph but it would take forever to get there ( 5100rpm@ 186) and at that rpm range it would only put down about 310hp at the wheels, so I think you would never reach the peak hp of the engine (6.000rpm) so I don't think it will ever reach 186mph, am I right?

I believe the 186 mph was done in a manual Z51 car. The 5th gear and diff ratio is different than you car.
but soon I'll get a Vararam intake and cut outs, will that make any sweet difference???
It will help, but you need a lot more than that to make a noticeable difference. Add a ported intake/FAST 90, headers, and a tune with the Vararam and it will get you there sooner.
The other option would be to look at a gear swap. Around a 2.95 would be pretty ideal; even 2.73s would help.
I have an '07 a6 as well, and have gotten it somewhere around 180mph (stopped looking down past 175) before I slowed it down
I agree - past 170 you kind of have to push it.
Minimal mods to get it around 400 rwhp and new rear end gear (3.42) should bring you into the mid 3 sec zone for acceleration and closer to a 200 mph top speed...
Randy mine had the 2.56 rear gear. I made it to 172 before I ran out of runway. The car was still pulling when I had to get on the brakes. This was with a 06. Given enough space I am sure it will go faster.
does anyone know wich automatic equipped C6
has a higher top speed, 2.56 or 2.73??
The faster you go, the more HP needed and its an exponential growth of HP needed. A 2.73 car will be making more HP than a 2.56 car in 5th gear at 180 mph because the motor is going to be 6% higher in the rpm band and thus making a few more HP. The problem is that at 180 mph, you need a lot more then just a few extra HP to accelerate noticeably faster.
At the speeds you are looking at, the 2.73 car might get to another 2 mph faster just because of space needs. If you had unlimited space, I'd guess the difference drops to about a 1 mph, if that.
