MN6 problem
Background........car has had intermittent 1st and 2nd gear grinds on downshifts only, shifter adjustment made the 2nd gear problem almost totally disappear.
Today...........driving spirited but safe and sensible on open deserted roads. Slowing through about 35mph, clutch in and shift from 3rd to 2nd. Observed a large clunk with a let up in drive as I try to engage 2nd, no grind or anything like it. Now the shifter was blocked out of all gears and I coasted to a halt.
Phoned the tow truck and calmed down before doing a little roadside diagnosis in the 106 degree heat!

The problem now is this. Clutch is good and disengages to allow the car to be rolled, thus engine starts up fine. However, regardless of shifter position the car is in gear, ie when you lift the clutch it engages drive even in Neutral position. But......car will not budge, it is although the brakes are on solid?
Also, it is practically impossible to get the shifter to take up the position of 1st or 2nd but it will slide into position of 3/4/5/6 and R. Reverse lights activate in R position as would be expected.
Last thing is the shifter is definately moving stuff around in the transmission as you can hear the clickety/clack sound as it moves?
Can anyone help? Feeling a bit gutted at the mo.
Thanks.
