LS3 cam change
Contemplating a cam change in a 2010 LS3. GM recommends new lifters when performing a cam change. How many of you did so when you replaced your camshaft?
Thanks for any input.

Very few people change lifters when changing a cam. I didn't.
I will say, I know two local guys (and another guy one who posted today) who had lifter failure, it can ruin the block when it happens (doesn't always do that).
If I was going for one of the new, max effort cams with the super aggressive lobes, I'd think long and hard about upgrading the lifters.
My friend GTODoug who is the king of research upgraded his lifters when he went with a not so big cam. Lifters aren't too expensive, if you're pulling heads anyway, easy to change.

Didn't change Lifters with my cam. I did when I did my heads though, just because I was in there

Here's the results of cylinder #1 intake lifter failure:
Took the cam lobe out with it. Fortunately I was able to drop the lifter out through the cam bay and it didn't score the lifter bore.
If a lifter does take out the bore, you can have bronze lifter bore bushings installed (Jesel) but it's not cheap. A lot of high hp motors install Jesel's as part of thier build.

We hardly ever change the lifters, but its never a bad idea to upgrade to set of ti-bar lifters if the heads are off the car. If you ever need any technical assistance feel free to call.
