Battery causing inside plastic door smudges
I have the vented battery in the hatch area ('11 GS) and also have a smudging problem with the plastic door panels. I'm wondering if the battery off gas is causing the problem as I've never experienced this before having a battery in the back.
More importantly, what is this gas doing to me?

Your battery doesn't have a vent tube to the outside?

Check your vent tube (crack, kink, disconnect etc) and rule that out as an issue.
Clean and reapply a protectant like 303.
Could be anything like a detail dressing or shampoo from the carpet...yet based on your post it is a venting issue.
Flatulence is worse. Exhaust from other cars is worse. Barbecue smoke is worse....I won't have a worry.

I do have the vent tube to outside but for those who have had battery work, they should check it since the dealers don't even know what to do with it.
