This is the first real issue I've run into with my 2008 C6 -- got in the car this morning (A/C worked fine on Friday when I drove it last) and noticed that nothing on the heater / air condition / blower console will turn on. The CD player works fine, but it doesn't matter what button you push on the blower console, it will not turn on. The back light lights up when the head lights are on, but other than that it seems dead. Any advice?
That's most likely the correct diagnosis......it's dead or maybe nearly dead. It might work again tomorrow or the next day but you should just plan on replacing the head unit. If you're not in factory or extended warranty you can buy a new unit from one of our vendors, partstaxi.com or gmpartshouse.com for substantially less than the local dealer. Good luck.
Thanks for the reply -- do you think it's worth unplugging the battery and plugging it back in to "reboot" the computer?
Can't hurt......a few have reported that it worked.....at least for awhile......and doesn't cost anything. Don't forget you'll have to re-index the windows when you hook it back up.
Not "often" but it is fairly common, seemingly more in the '05-'07 years than later. That may be due to age, a general problem with the design/parts, etc, don't really know. I do know we've seen fewer '08's reporting it here and almost no '09's and later years. Again, maybe just an age thing or maybe they changed something in the '08 model year to make them last longer. If/when you do replace yours presumably you'll get the latest, and possibly a better, unit.
Well thanks for all the info Rick. I was driving home yesterday and the unit started working unexpectedly and is working today. I didn't even unplug the battery or anything yet. Will have to keep an eye on this.
