Default '07 Hatch Closing - Motorized or ???

Does anyone know if there is some type of motor that closes the rear hatch? I never slam the hatch on my '07 to close it, rather, I just lower it to the point where it stops and the give it a slight push. A motor or something seems to take over and "suck" the hatch into lock position. My friend has an '06 and I have watched him close his hatch. It doesn't seem to close the same way as mine.

Any idea what's the difference? Am I being too careful with mine? Should I just slam it and will this affect the "motor" on the hatch, assuming there is one?

Thanks!

I don't have a coupe but from what I've read here you are doing it correctly.

Like Rick says, you're doing it just right!

Is you friend's car a Z06?

The C6 Z06 did not have the auto pull down feature until around 2009, so if he has a 2006 Z06 it doesn't have pull down motor.

All C6 base coupes have the auto pull down latch, so if he has a regular coupe, it should do just like yours.

The vert trunk and the Z06 from 2006 through about the 2008 model have a manual latch - no pull down motor.

I'm going to be in your neck of the woods next week. I STILL have all the parts for adding the auto pull down sitting next to my desk for like the past 2 years.

Unfortunately I don't think I'm going to have any time to spare...

Hows your conversion holding up?

Hi - it's holding up just great!!

For those of you that might be wondering what he's talking about, it's the fact that I put in an auto pull down latch into my 2006 Z06, and Robert supplied me with the parts. I had the auto latch on my '05 coupe, and I really missed it on the Z06, so I put one into the Z06.

I wanted to look you up at Vettes For Vets at Talladega, but I didn't see your car.

I'll PM my phone# and maybe we can get together.

We were about 2/3's down the garage area. We ran at 11 and 2 then got 2 extra 5 lap sessions for getting shorted a lap and then someone doing 30 down the front stretch to get some room to run while absolutely screwing those in back of him.

Sorry OP back to topic...

My pull down seems work some times and sometimes not. I've seen others report that problem. I think it is sensitive to dirt/dust as some people clean the mechanism and report that it starts working again.

I've had no issues with the pulldown on my '07 Coupe but I use the handle to pull it down with and I heard they deleted the handle later in the model year for unknown reasons.

If you have the parts to add the pull-down addon to a Z06 that doesn't have that option I would like to buy the parts (or parts list).
My Z has the pull-down feature, wife's Z does not.

Depending on your answer my sex life could improve drastically (short term at least)...

I don't know if my answer is going to aid in your sex life or not but here goes...

It's been a couple of years since we did this project. I have my pull down motor sitting here beside my desk that came from an 07 coupe. There were some pig tail connectors I got and the directions from BEZ06 on how to mount the pull down and wire it up. the thread is here on the forum somewhere.

Do a search on trunk pull down or even check threads started by BEZ06 from a couple of years ago. The sad thing is it's not that difficult of a job. I have been a lazy azz and just haven't did it yet.

The parts from GM ran about 400. You can check with places like Corvette Recycling (Forum Vendor). After I sold Bob the stuff I had I turned around and purchased everything I needed used for around 175.00

Well hope that helps and puts a smile back on your face.

I have noticed that sometimes the pull down doesn't work. However, it seems like when this happens, a door or window is open. This may have something to do with air pressure in the cabin and the hatch mechanism sensing there is no internal air/pressure resistence against the hatch??? Someone else may be able to explain this better.

Doubtful.

Pull down works about 99.5% of the time when I slam my hatch just a little. You've just got to do it enough to know what it takes. Since I've had a C6 with the pull down since September of 2004, I've had plenty of experience.

Hey Chris, that sounds like a well worthwhile mod!!!

Like Robert said, I did the mod to my '06 Z06 several years ago with help from him supplying the parts. Here's a link to the thread:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...ear-hatch.html

In that thread, there's a lot of questions about whether it could be done, and then some other posts about the parts Robert sent and some good info from forum member leres with some thoughts on the wiring differences.

So....scroll down to post# 44 to where I finally start the installation.

Also, here's a video before I did the installation, and if you're wondering what the "handle" that dgrant3830 mentioned is, then you probably don't have it because they did away with it in around 2008. In the video below you can see that handle:
