First time post so please be patient. I just purchased a used 2005 C6 with 1SB package (I guess this is now the 3LT package) with chrome rims, Onstar, Nav, Z51. Now that that is out of the way, I am having the battery drain issue and just want to be sure of this:
When turning off the motor, is it important to put it in reverse first, or can the motor be turned off and then put it in reverse?
I did several things wrong (left radar detector plugged in to cigarette lighter which stays hot, left phone charger plugged into Accessory outlet) and my battery died. I charged up the battery, but it was not charging good with a charging drain of 7 amps, then 4 amps, then 2, then back to 4, so I got a new battery. The old battery was only a couple of months old, but was swelled on the sides, so I exchanged it. I am now turning off the Nav, disabled key fob alert, passive lock, etc.
When I bought the car, the cigarette lighter fuse was popped (replaced that and has not repopped), and now the trunk will not work from the rear button (works fine with key fob). Will check the fuse for the trunk. I will take it to the dealer for the reflash and hope it will not cost much as it is a TSB. Oh, great forum here and loads to learn.

It doesn't matter when you shift to reverse, before shut down or after. You will get a reminder on dash if you don't shift until after shut down. The main thing is to remember to shift to reverse.
You may need to have the charging system checked to see if it is over charging if the sides of the battery were swollen.
I have had my 05 for over 90,000 mi and finally lost the battery this summer. The one and only time I let a valet park the car , they didn't shift to reverse and drained the battery. I was able to jump it and recharged with just the alternator. Lasted for well over 2 years after that.
Good luck and enjoy your vette.....it is a really fun drive!!
Your rear hatch button is dirty. That's why it won't work. Mine was the same way. Read through THIS thread and you can fix it yourself. Mine looked exactly like the one in the pictures and cleaning it fixed it.
Oh, and BTW, whenever you charge a battery make sure you disconnect one of the battery terminals from the battery first.

I read up after I posted and already removed/cleaned/reinstalled the hatch switch and all is good. You guys rock!
I did not remove one of the battery leads before charging the battery. Is this something specific to the C6, or are you just referring to the issue where the battery gas could ignite when charging if you don't ground to the frame instead of the negative terminal?
I'm going by what happened in my case. Had a dead battery once when I was working on stereo system. I tried to charge it and the charger went crazy. Got real hot very fast and the meter needle was off the scale. I disconnected the negative terminal and put the charger back on and it worked normally and it charged in about 6 hours.

No need to do this. I charge my 2005 every weekend due to my short trip everyday to work. (3 miles) I've been charging batteries for over 50 years and have never done it.
Good luck with your new Corvette. I bought mine new and have never had an electrical problem.

But is your battery totally dead when you charge it? That's the difference. I've never done it either until my '05 was dead and the charger would not work correctly until I disconnected one of the terminals. Then it worked fine.

When ever I've had a dead battery I remove it and buy a new one. I watch the charge and would know ahead of time if it was not charging. Even then I charge it before I install it. I don't know what to tell you except I can't see any reason for your problem. It almost sounds like you hooked the charger up reversed. I've done that.
Another thing I noticed about things that drain the battery, my wife open her door before I could put up the windows, and of course, the power shutoff. So I hit ACC and rolled the windows up. I thought I turned the ACC off, but I didn't. I noticed the clear lights under the rear were on, so I got back in and hit the start button, and the lights went out. That would surely drain the battery and maybe have contributed to my battery problems. Just thought I would share.

I have 2005 and had the same issue. I also removed cleaned and lubricated the button but it stopped working again after a while. I bought a replacement button from GM, and it has been changed so that dirt cannot get into the button plugger. A cylinder has been added to seal the button area. It has now been working fine fora couple of years now.
