Well I thought the Citrus Nationals were the weekend after Thanksgiving at PBIR, but I don't see anything on their website about it and google has let me down.
Maybe Joe_G or someone can chime in and confirm.

Joe, any info?

Very well documented thread sir
What would Spin's cam usually put down with untouched 243's I wonder? I'm leaning towards AI for heads this time around (vs TEA last time).

I thought I read in one of his threads a while back that this cam in an LS2 with untouched 243's made 450-455 rwhp with a FAST 102 and was documented at 490 rwhp with either AFR or Trickflow heads. With that said, I'm thinking my 485 isn't bad at all.
Since your cam is a bit more aggressive than mine, I would bet you would be at or very close to 500 rwhp on a Dynojet after adding ported 243's.
How is Georgia treating you?

Great write up taken. I change my mind every week on what direction I want to go in with my ls2. Some days I want to order trickflows, fast, and a g6x3 while other days just bolt on a vortech kit and be done with it. Lately I've been considering just saving and buying a z06 and leaving it stock with the exception of coilovers however with all the dropped valve/excessive valve guide wear threads over in their forum I'd be quite nervous to pick up an ls7 out of warranty.
Big cam/headers/tune seems to be the best bang for the buck. 450 rwhp ls2 for 3k is a pretty good return on investment. Anything over that 1st and 2nd gear starts having serious traction issues.

Nice!
The AI results are always impressive, I've a set of 241's that have been laying about for a few years that I should send over to them.
Which version of the cnc programing did you go with?
One thing dyno's don't do well is report tip in & throttle response, which I would bet your combination excels at

The cost of heads isn't worth the return you get, to me. You might make a decent bit more power, but the actual performance increase is much less than going from boltons to cam.

But it's a tradition that they have a "test day" on the Friday before the Citrous, and it's pretty much open track all day. We used to get in dozens of runs and that's when I really learned to launch.
Here's my thread from years back:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/drag...y-11-23-a.html
And here's one of the pics I've got on my wall from going. This photographer is there each year getting launch shots then he comes by and sells them to you for $35 all mounted. They are nice hi-def shots. I think I see some air! well maybe not.
I'm going to try really hard to be there...and I'm going to try to get Roger and Jeremy at HPS to have some sort of "customer appreciation" day or something...Jeremy will give free drag strip tips which are actually quite valuable...maybe he'll do some "strip tunes" which is a program they do, scan and tune the car at the track...best way to tune IMHO.

Thanks for chiming in Joe, the wife and I are very excited about the trip-hell, I think she brings it up more than I do which is odd. I think we're actually going to bring both cars, her Mini cooper, and my vette, since I can't really fit the mounted drag radials in the hatch, let alone with luggage and an 8 lb dog in the back. Good thing it gets 35 mpg

Have her bring something else to do. Sitting listening to guys talk about cams and RPM launch technique tends to get a little old for most women. My wife has oft been heard saying "I paid my dues....I stopped going to the drag strip years ago"...which coincided about with our wedding day! LOL
I did win my first trophy with her car however (a 99 Ram Air Trans Am Convert).
OK enough Hijack. You guys asked me to chime in but that's enough!
Good thread Taken19. I've answered this question many times, nearly every time I meet a new Vette owner at the track. There is definitely a need for a thread like this that gives people a blueprint for the build so that money is not wasted.
Oh...and I was like you, resisting that FAST for years, but it is So Much better than the LS2 that I recommend it be installed right after the cam. A mandatory mod with the cam in IMHO on the LS2.

And yes, throttle response is instant. That's what makes it so nice... No lag or spool up time to wait for.

If you figure the average $50 per rwhp, the cost is better than average. AI advertises 35-45 rwhp for their CNC work. Even if you assume 30 rwhp to be conservative, that's still $33 per rwhp (just the head work was $1000). If you just considered the cost of the cam only, you would be right. Almost always the cam swap comes with new springs, pushrods, timing chain, gaskets, ect which can double or triple the cost of the cam alone.

I think Shawn was referring to the additional cost of Trickflows or AFRs versus a ported stock head not being worth the additional cost.

Absolutely--the Trickflows are gorgeous, no doubt about it, but the ported LS3s are making great power and it's tough to argue ~30 more whp for about $1000 when you factor in your core swap/selling your heads.

This winter I'll have some dyno numbers for you guys from AFR 205 heads since I just bolted a set on. I dyno'd my 450/408 with stock heads (through 3.90's) in January last time so I'll wait until winter again and we will see what AFR 205's do.

Lookin forward to it Joe.--I'll be adding ported/milled LS3 heads to my build and should hopefully have the numbers in about 4-6 weeks once everything shows up and I put it all together. Hopefully I'll see 525+

I'd certainly love a ride but 'deal' looks fair to me! TY again. Quite busy now but am sure to have some questions. Looking forward to capturing more details from our other 'ate up' Forum Members taxing / stretching the limits of their LS2 Monsters too.
TY to all!!!!!
