What's the--SAFE--rwhp you can go to & still have safe reliability on the-----A6--auto ????

500 is safe........550 is pretty safe on the street but not for much racing. Many discussions on it and many members here have tested the limits so they might chime in with real world experience. For now, here's just one recent thread:

The 556 HP CTS-V and the 580 HP ZL1 Camaro have ~475-500 rwhp and GM went to the expense to go with the larger, more robust, 6L90 transmission instead of the 6L80 that is used in the Corvette C6. Maybe GM knows something.

I'm currently at 600rwhp/600tq and the tranny's holding up fine. In fact, it grabs so well when it shifts, today I went sideways on a 2-3rd gear WOT paddle shift.
Street tires help keep the damage under control.

It wasn't so much the extra HP in those cars, but the extra weight. Pulling 1000+ additional pounds requires a stronger transmission.

Check out the "Subfloor's" post on the A6 tranny. He's running a modded LS7. I believe he had Century Transmissions modify his A6 tranny.
